yeah the picture of the headunit with the dell is exactly like my headunit

so, in essence, the only way to put in an IPOD directly is to use the TAPE player as the auxillary and lose the tape player feature?

is the other way to get a new Mercedes headunit that has an auxillary?
if so, which specific headunit?

The only fix I've found is to NOT charge it while listening to music. I make sure it's charged every couple of days (or at least once a week, depending on how much I drive that week) so that I don't have to bother charging while listening. Otherwise, if it runs out of battery while I'm listening to music, I switch over to the radio and let it charge so I don't have to listen to the interference. Good enough for me!

For pre-'05's the only way to get auxillary without using the tape deck is to have Steve (or another trained professional) install Comand and AUX. There is no specific HU that has AUX capability that I've heard of.

anyone with an AUX input think that the volume is too low? I connect my Dell DJ to it, and I have to crank the volume on my DJ at maximum to get a loud enough sound from my H/K system. Am I the only one? Thanks.

Nah, that's about right. I never like to put any sound source at max volume because I feel there is a bit of distortion, so I keep mine at the level just below max (24, I think) and I have to turn the volume on the headunit a bit louder than when listening to radio or cd's. I just make sure to turn it back down before switching back to radio or cd.

i just finished installing mine today...took about 10 mins. very pleased with the results. for all those people with the iTrip or any other FM transmitter and thought it was decent enough...think again. i had the DLO and the iTrip and figured it was good enough for now but since the installation was so simple and now the quality is just amazing. i have my ipod sitting in my cupholder now with the wires tucked around the CD changer and coming down the side of the center dash from the glove compartment to the cup holders for whoever mentioned it was a hassle to reach into the glove compartment to get the ipod. ill get some pictures up if anyone is interested. but ya THANKS FOR THE INFO <3

I noticed the same problem : the volume is too low when you plug the AUX input to the headset output on the MP3 player. There is a solution : it's better to plug the AUX input to "Line out" output. This plug does'nt exist on all MP3 player. For the ipod there is a little adaptor available. It costs about 30$. I've ordered it. I can give all the details as soon as i have tried it.

Can anyone tell me what kind of plug this is? I know the end that connects to the ipod is a 3.5mm plug. What kind of plug is the other end that is connected to the Mercedes Benz Harness? What's it called. Also, where is it available at?

I've read this entire thread, yet I'm still a little confused. Will Sawloo's mod with the cable harness work on a 2004 C230K without NAV or the CDC button?

Welcome to the Forum.

Nope it will not. You will need to mod your HU. There has been a thread on that as well.

If your running a ipod with docking station, try putting the ipod into the docking station and playing the song it soundsalot better in my car.

Well that would depends on your song bitrate. I usually download or rip mine with 192 or higher. The trick is to play with the EQ settings on your ipod first then your sound settings in the HU.

Cable harness not in stock in the US

I ordered the AUX cable harness from my dealer (Herb Chambers, Somerville MA) last Wed. They told me today that they couldn't find one in the US and that it's on order from Germany. No ETA.

Will post costs when available.

Any ideas as to how to run an extension form the glove box to the arm rest? Thanks.

Fix for noise/hum heard while charging iPod with engine running.

There are 2 problems that someone can encounterThere are 2 problems that someone can encounter when using an external audio device on the car audio system.

1. Impedance mismatch. This occurs when you use the iPod headphone output to drive the auxiliary input on the radio. The auxiliary inputs where designed to be connected to the line level outputs of the external audio device. It's easy to over drive or under drive the line level inputs when using the iPod headphone output. This leads to a lower quality of sound and decreased frequency response.

It's best to use the line level output that the iPod offers. Here's a link to the best product I've found to get the line level output without use the iPod dock.

2. Ground loops. Here's a good article: http://www.epanorama.net/documents/g...oop/index.html

Crutchfield sells a ground loop noise isolator. This would be installed between the iPod and the auxiliary input of the radio.

My iPod and COMAND must be superior to everyone else's. I have the headphone output hooked up to the auxiliary input and it sounds great. Volume is a little bit low because I run the iPod at 80% volume (no chance of overdriving it at full either I guess) and no ground loop noise (this usually would only be an issue if you are charging the iPod at the same time; I do, but since my ground for the iPod has a good connection, no ground loop).

My Dell DJ runs well on the headphones output to the AUX. The volume is lower but if set close to max on the head unit its more than enough.

I picked up my cable today:

(part no. 203-540-61-07 on the invoice) priced at $28.50 before tax.

A technician is going to install it tomorrow. I don't want to mess around with anything and then complain about a rattle noise in my glove box

That's exactly what I did but the other way around

I complained about a noise in there, so the MB tech took it apart to investigate and while he was in there he installed the cable for me.

So, I only had to pay for the cable.

Worked out fine eh
