Tires say Max 51 PSI, door jams say Max 38/32 PSI, WHICH ONE DO I LISTEN TO???

I checked my tires and they were all in the 30's so, i assume the door jam is what I listen to... but then if I wanted could I inflate my tires to 50 since it is within the max limit printed on the inner tire wall??

go check your tires out and compare to the drivers door jam, you will see what I mean...

I wonder why mercedes has this discrepancy between what they say and what the actual tires say???

I think the tire max is the max the compound and tread design are allowed to go with any sort of load.

The MAX PSI listed on the Tire is what the manufacturer of the tire determines through design and other methods. Mercedes reccomends 38/32 as a possible range and or max PSI for optimum comfort and handling.

It should be noted that the higher the pressure the worse the ride gets and more choppy.

I usually put few extra PSI from the placard. Don't mind the extra choppy ride but will have less rolling resistance.

You have to take into account that air is expanded during driving thus will yield higher pressure inside the tyre, if you put 51/max psi into the tyre, the tyre can't handle the extra psi during driving.

I own 2008 C-350 2008 E-350 2005 C -230 Kompressor 2006 FORd F-350 6.0
It meant to use the door sticker ofr psi cause remeber it took seven yr to bring you a mercedes and 14 million mile around the world they tested every psi scenerio u can think of and that one on the door sbest for ride handling and for higher speed if you inflate more the ride is unbearable

use door jam number, MAX on tirewall its the maxium tire pressure you can put, usually done if you are carrying really heavy loads.

+1

ALWAYS use the what's in the door jam. The discrepancy between the two numbers exists on all cars. Tires are always rated to go higher then what the manufacture recommends but you don't ever want to fill the tire to the max. That would be very bad.
