So anyway I hardly ever drive my wifes car, but after a month straight of driving my pickup daily '08 Nissan Frontier I took my wifes car out for a spin yesterday. We live in a newly developed master planned type community and since the economy has been rough there is a lot of vacant novice test course space at my disposal. I turned the traction aids off and went at it for about 20 minutes. I've seen a few YouTube vids of C300 burnouts and such but thought they probably just used soap under the tires. Well I came to a dead stop and proceeded to apply a little throttle while slightly holding the brake. I could not believe how easily the rears go up in smoke, Tiff Needell would have been proud. I was able to get em going, then roll the car some 40-50 ft still spinning. Also I thought our cars had an open type differential? Why was I was able to leave two equal length stripes non the less? Do the sport C300's have a limited slip differential?. Also if you enter the apex of a corner with the auto in manual mode and in 2nd gear load the throttle and the rear end will easily step out. I've said it once and I will say it again, if you aren't enthused with your C300 you are not driving it 10/10. Only down fall is that our car has 15K miles on it and before I headed out the tires easily could have gone another year or so or 10K miles now It looks like I will need rears before winter

I wanna try so bad but am worried the tires will go too fast lol. How long were you doing it for?

Actually not very long, but the tires already have 15K miles of my wife driving the car conservatively. I only tried it twice, I admit I've been curious since I got the car, ever since the first reviews and videos of the C6.3 came out I've tried to pretend vicariously how that car drives and handles when I get to take the wifes car out. I'm crazy I try to add the V8 6.3 sounds with my mouth while accelerating on and off freeway entrances and such. I'm really a very good driver and treat and maintain my vehicles well. It's just that at even 30 y/o I find these burst to act out like a 16 year old that just got their license at times. And it is absolute insane fun for the moment. Above all really I just didn't think 228 hp in a heavy sedan was enough to break them lose and the curiosity got the best of me.

the 300's have more than enough power for that. Its a very drift-able car right out of the box. at least the sport is...with a 6sp you can burn through the first 2 gears without the tires ever catching cleanly. i also have 9.5's with very gummy hankooks in the rear and they still chirp and smoke with little gas. fun fun fun.

Thanks CarGuru for proving my point raised in an earlier post.

The C280/300 can break traction if you do it the rightway. My ESP is easily provoked especially when pulling out of junctions.

I tried couple of times but failed to burn out. Do you need to hold on to the break slightly?

Yea. I tryed turning the ESP off and putting the car in dyno mode. But I guess you need to hold the brake slightly.

switch ESP off,,, switch to tip-tronic 1st gear...hold the brake pedal with ur left foot....step ur right foot slightly on the gas pedal and as soon as u feel the brakes resisting pretty good...left ur left foot off the brakes and fully press the gas....it is supposed to fly

u might want to try the throttle reset thing before u actually do that... some people here say it helps! although i am not so sure about it

Thanks for the comments to all that posted, on another note though does anyone know if our cars have a Limited Slip rear differential? The only reason I ask is because the cars tendency to oversteer almost at will and the fact the car leaves two black marks from a burnout leads me to believe so.

nope - no LSD. Even when you switch ESP off, it's still on and that's why you're leaving 2 tire marks. In dynomode you will leave only 1 black mark.

Correct. I read about the "false" posi differential in the C32/C55 forums. Has to do with traction control and creating the illusion based off two tire marks but not a tru posi by any means.

What? Memory seats are too expensive, but they'd put in a LSD? Hell no. Nobody does these days except on the top line models; everybody's (BMW still does on the M models, but I bet that goes away in favor of an electronic active diff soon) faking it with the electronics.

I don't even think the C63 gets a true mechanical LSD does it?

The C63 with the optional performance package does get a mechanical LSD.

I still can't believe the C63 gets away with so little rubber out back. You know how you hear stories about Prius owners keeping one eye on the battery guage and trying to adjust their driving? For C63 owners, they must have to keep one eye on the traction control light and try to adjust their driving to keep it from blinking.

Dude,

You are driving da Benze LOL. You have an open differential, but even with the ESP off, I still believe we have traction control. The car will apply the brake to the wheel that is slipping to get the other one going. Best of both worlds.

Burnouts!! I can't believe I haven't tried yet. I bought this car for the "smooth" ride I'm gonna try the burnout during lunchtime LOL.

Hey Guys,
Okay - I had an opportunity to give this a try. Turned off the ESP stood on the brake and hit the gas. Did a nice little burnout but all of my ABS controls and lights came on. Got an error on the speedometer screen Brake assist and all associated brake programs would not be available. I didn't have the muanal, so I parked and shut it off, took back off again and it was fine. Is that normal?

I tryed the procedure, Put the car in dyno mode, in first gear and held the break and hit the gas but nadda. I Didn't get a burnout, I tryed even holding the brake slightly and it still wouldn't budge.
