Engine Cover Removal Procedure w/ Pictures
This will cover the engine cover removal for a C350. I assume a C300 is no different unless corrected.
1) All covers attached and as motor looks when hood is opened.
2) The smaller front cover(with MB emblem) removed. The cover is attached with simple pressure pins underneath and then clips connecting to the bigger cover. Just pull up on the sides of the small cover or front lip to pop up and off.
3) Parts circled in red(flex intake tubes and breather hose) need to be pulled off from engine cover/intake tubes before removing engine cover.
Then grab each intake tube that is part of cover from underneath(red lines) and pull up with a little bit of force. Don't be shy as nothing will break as shown in the next step.
4) Spring clips on bottom of intake tubes/engine(4 overall) cover are what attaches to engine via metal pads as shown circled in red.
5) Removal is complete and now an exposed engine is available to work on.
6) To re-install make sure TB opening of engine cover pops down and seals against TB of engine and reverse all procedures above.

I'm a modifier by nature and was curious what may be able to be done. I have to say MB does a great job engineering as far as ease of work. I've worked on enough modern cars where even simple plug changes are knuckle busters and a real pain but this motor is going to be a real pleasure to add power to once I figure out my exact plan.

Great write up man! I yanked a few times on the cover, curious as to what was underneath but I didn't think it was that important to get it off so I stopped. Now I will definatly check it out. Are there any service manuals out for this car yet?

Thanks for the pictures and the instructions for the engine cover removal! I have an '06 C350 and was trying to find out how to remove the cover to check the air filters.

Just want to add.....so you don't do like I did......when you put back the small piece with the tri-star on it. Just set into position and then push straight down into place. Otherwise you may bend the rear most clips....and have to straighten them out to properly install.
That's all I have to add

pls help. i am trying to check my air filter on my 2007 C280. I followed the procedures in c350, but somehow I can not pull out the engine cover. I noticed there are six small torx screw attached to the top cover which I presumed the cover for the filter. but these torx screw is only not accessible from the top. do you need special screw dricer ( flexible) or you can get one from any auto supply or dealer.
thanks

I lost the metal clip that attaches the front cover to the rear cover under the car on the under tray and could not find it.
Mercedes Benz Canada won't sell just the clip and want $112 for a new cover. Given this is a new car (2009 E 350 4 matic Wagon) this is the first time this cover has been off and I think the clip was not installed right because there is no way to get the other one off without using tools.
Does any one know where to get these clips?
Thanks.

2010 C 300
I watched a tech do this to may car on Monday and he also had to release a metal clip on the backside of the cover against the firewall that held the cover down over the round air intake firmly. My car is a 2020 C300 which is maybe diff than yours.
