E85 consistently cost more per mile than petrol.

My average is $0.170e85/mi vs $0.141/mi (us dollars)

is it normal to get 13-15 mpg city driving with e85?

The total energy value of E85 is lower than gasoline due to lower density & the product being partially oxidised. Poor fuel consumption is the result.

I have a 2011 C300 Sport 4matic automatic transmission my gas cap is yellow and the inside says E85 or Premium. I have not yet tried running e85 in it, if i do will i see power gains? Will it ruin my car? i'm gonna try soon and see what happens hopefully i can get some ponies out of this.

Yes you can use it, you won't see power gains, it won't ruin your car, and it won't give it more horsepower. It will get much less MPG, though.

Now with E85 costing $2-3 less per gallon than 91 in California, I’m thinking the decreased fuel economy is outweighed by the cost per gallon.
I think I’ll switch over until this crazy spike in gas prices comes down.

I get the point of saving $25-$40 per fill up, but my owners manual says not to use fuel with more than 15% ethanol. Since MB makes vehicles that are approved for E85, what makes them different? Will E85 cause some damage in non E85 vehicles?

I tried it. And it sucked that much to not make it worth it. Around here it’s 3.99/5.76 E85/Premium. That means I would need to do 16.12 mpg or greater for it to be worth it. Currently doing 17.9 mpg With a lot of freeway driving. It’s technically better, but not at the expense of fueling up more often. It’s bad enough with a 92mi commute everyday.

If you run your VIN on www.lastvin.com (www.datamb.com) and have feature code 929 ENGINE FOR ETHANOL FUEL E85 listed, your car can safely use E85. Otherwise, don't use it!

Ok so I’ve been using E85 for a couple weeks now. I’ve been getting around 350-380 miles out of a tank, where I would usually get around 380-410 miles out of a tank of premium. Worth it for now until the price for premium comes down to E85 price.

That will never happen (premium coming down to E85 price). So your gas mileage has decreased by 8%. What are you paying for E85 versus Premium?

If your mileage has fallen only 8%, then you are doing really well. My experience has been closer to 20% to 30% reduction in mileage. Are you being accurate in your calculations. I would like to know the miles per gallon versus miles per tank.

There is a thread someplace where this was discussed long ago. No one has claimed that E85 produces more power.
(Actually mines it's a 2011 300 sport and I've been running on e85 for over the beginning of the pandemic and even though gas consumption is horrible I does have a little better performance but keep in mind if you give him a few hard 1/2 mile passes the checking engine light will pop up saying your car is running Lean, so for me the key is drive responsible and I have a little piece of mind that my car have a little better performance just the way it should be on the first place with Petro 🥹

This is not the case when it comes to my 2012 C300 Luxury 4matic. I run E85. It says on the filler cap that I can.

From all the comments, E85 is not a fuel efficient as "normal" premium gasoline. Have you measured the mileage using both types of fuel?

I have a station that carries E85 nearby but have very rarely used it. Also, if you Google E85 you'll find articles that suggest that the actual percentage of ethanol can be less than 85%. But that's usually on sites that talk about racing.
