I am able to play my iPhone via bluetooth through the car speakers, but I have the UMI ( universal media interface ) installed. I do not think you have this option with just the standard bluetooth phone interface...

UMI, or the now NAV +4 is the only "Bluetooth Interface" that supports MP3 audio streaming. But in order to stream MP3 audio to the car your phone needs to support this feature also. I do not believe that the Iphone supports it.

The iphone bluetooth onky works to use the handsfree festure. Iphone does not support anything else vua bluetoot. Try to find an application in the apps store or in cydia that enables the iphone to do that.

Let me clarify this for all of you. What allows a phone (or any bluetooth device) to stream music is called A2DP. When iPhone OS 3.0 came out, Apple decided to allow this feature to be used by all users of the iPhone 3G and up. In other words, Apple locked and restricted the hardware which was already capable of this up until then.
Here is proof of an iPhone 3G streaming over A2DP in a Mazda: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCmoZGGR2Go
If you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS, just upgrade the system software to 3.0 or up.

I believe my car came with the UMI. Media Interface shows up on my screen and the car came with a bag full of adapters (USB, iPod/iPhone, etc). For those who have the UMI and have their iPhone streaming to their speakers, how is this done through the menus? I have tried playing a song on my iPhone 3GS, and switching to Media Interface and nothing happens.

Look at the 4th and 5th pictures in this thread :
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-pictures.html
First, set this up in the car ( you will need a seperate bluetooth connection from the regular one you use for making phone calls )
Then, when you play music on your iphone from either your regular library or from online radio ( Pandora, etc ) you will have the option to stream via bluetooth.
Hopefully this helps. PM meet if you need more info ( it is a little tricky and took me awhile to figure it out. The key is you need to set up the bluetooth connection in the car first )

Play music via bluetooth
I have a 2008 C300 with the motorized flip out screen and an Android phone. Is it possible to set up the system to play music from my phone through the car? I am synched via Bluetooth for phone purposes but it does not access my music records or Pandora. I see the spot in the glovebox for a cable but have no idea what kind as I don't have the cable and really don't want a cable attached to my phone while driving with glovebox open if my phone and car are b/t capable. Seems silly to me. Thanks!

If your phone supports A2DP and your car supports A2DP then you can stream music. Your car does not have A2DP, unless you purchase a UMI. There is no other way of streaming with Android devices, besides auxiliary, you must use A2DP. Apple devices can stream via the glovebox port.

You can read my post on the subject: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post6650409
The Bluetooth interface I use will work with Android devices: http://coolstreamrocks.com/faqs/does...ndroid-phones/
There are other Bluetooth devices others used such as: Viseeo Tune2air
As others mentioned, you will need a UMI cable if you plan to go this route.
If you do not want to purchase a UMI (Universal Media Interface) cable, you can use an AUX cable and Bluetooth adapter as I mentioned: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post6651462
You will need to verify the version of COMAND installed in your car. Follow the steps below, if you do not have the "Boost" feature for sound, music will sound like crap! Very low and poor sound quality.
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post6606920
iPod connection kit installed but I had to do the same when I first connected my iPhone as the sound was very low.
*COMAND Operating Instructions*
Increasing the volume using COMAND
It may be the case that a device which is connected as an external audio source seems quieter or louder in the vehicle, or that the usual maximum volume cannot be achieved. The volume of some devices can be set
separately. In this case, start at a medium volume and then raise it slowly. This enables you to hear if the system can play the music without distortion even at high volumes.
Select Volume in the AUX display by turning the COMAND controller and press to confirm.
A menu appears. The dot indicates the current setting.
Select Standard or Boost and press to confirm.
Standard: the volume of the external audio source is adjusted to a standard value.
Boost: the volume of the external audio source is raised by approximately 10 dB.
I stream music, Google/Apple maps, YouTube, whatever when I'm in my car. Not a problem since I installed 12/2015.
HTH.
Good luck!!

But would this work only if you had the Ipod cable port in the glovebox's roof?
I seem only to have an aux 3.5mm port..
I would love to have BT streaming, instead of depending on an SD card constantly.

You can use the AUX 3.5mm connection.
See my post here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post6651462
EDIT:
If someone wishes to save money or does not have the iPod cable, I was informed the Miccus Mini-jack RX has an auto-ON / auto-OFF feature when connected as below. I'm not able to verify as I do not have a Miccus to test at the moment.
The other option I was going to try next if the above did not work for me:
* This configuration will use Aux cable and not iPod cable. USB charger will use the 12V charging port in the glove compartment to power the Miccus.
This setup worked for me prior to purchasing the CarPro to use with the iPod cable in the glove compartment.

streaming
If you can't use BT streaming only for phone purposes then why not try using BT adapter. I had same issue, in order to stream music I bought WMA3000A with AMI cable from viseeousa.com, it's a plug and play bluetooth (A2DP) streaming music to iPod ready cars. it works with no issues on mine.
