What is service A1?
My car is due for return with the end of the lease in a couple of months, but the service indicator came on for "A1" service. It's the second year service, and I have only driven 12,000 miles for the first two years. And since I will be returning the car soon I want to take it to a local repair shop to save some money. I know my MB dealer charges more than $500 for this service. What does service A1 exactly entails, so I can have outside repair shop perform the same thing? Thanks in advance.

In a restaurant is a steak a la Andy Griffith (famous for A1 and steak). At Mercedes an oil and filter change, a CPU service reset, a check of the tire pressure (5 tires), plus a visual of everything in the car from brakes to sun shades, as detailed on the owner's manual. You can do it yourself or at a shop, keeping a record of what you did and receipts of "approved" materials used.
Considering the low mileage, you may wish to publish the car and turn it in if you could not sell it before the deadline. You might be able to sell it for your balance plus a reasonable profit.

Just have a dealer do it. The A1 service is the least expensive. Any authorized MB shop will be pretty close to the same price as the dealership.
