Anyone who is wondering whether they are changing their oil too often/not often enough should try to get a Blackstone-Labs engine oil analysis... You obviously would have to DIY... Collect the sample and mail it in. The KIT is free... And the analysis will run you $22.50 + the cost to ship it to them (~$5)...
I am NOT spamming... I seriously have used their service on previous vehicles that I owned (though not on my newly acquired C300)...

Hello,
If you are smart you change your engine oil more often than it is written in your car manual: do you think that Benz has any interest to make your car last as long as possible ?
Of course not ! They want you to buy a new one.
So even if 10000 miles or kms could be ok I think anybody smart who wants to keep his car as long as possible will change his engine oil every 5000 miles or kms.
Cheers.

The employee lease program doesn't require the first oil change until 10,000 miles. I'm guessing they fill it with synthetic oil from the factory for it to last that long.
I've always changed oil every 3,000 miles when using conventional oil and maybe 5,000-6,000 when using synthetic. Wix filters are pretty good filters to use as well, not sure if you can use those on Mercedes or not though. To me 10,000 miles seems kind of too long, I'd rather change it at 6,000 to 7,500 if running synthetic just to be safe, doesn't cost that much in the long run and your engine has nice clean oil in it.

But let us assume your analogy is valid... What interest would the engine oil industry have in agreeing to the same schedule that the car manufacturers recommend, when in fact, it would be in their best interest to have us change our engine oil twice as often as recommended thereby increasing their sales by that same factor?

funny i was told today at the dealership change every 20,000km!! i really couldn't believe it but they said if you do city %50 and %50 highway you can wait but if you do majority city it should be done at 16000km

20,000km is approximately 12500 miles which is below the 13500 recommended distance between oil changes -at least- for my 2008 C-Class.

7500-10,000 miles with a good, approved synthetic is totally fine given the oil capacity factored in. If you are in doubt,, just have an oil analysis done on a sample for your next change.

5k for me. And people worry so much about the oil and forget the importance of the filter. Seen some aftermarket cheap filter crushed. Remember only OEM of Mann filter. None of these fram bs filters

Mercedes Million Kilometer Test
1000,000 Kilometers = 621371.192 miles
They did 13000 mile oil changes X 48 times (using Mobil 1 synthetic)
Then they took the engine apart and inspected it for wear and tear...

Depends how you define "good".
Personally, for how complex engines are these days I think they are incredibly reliable-when taken care of. You hear of recommended tune ups at 100K mils, oil change intervals at 10K. That was unheard of not that long ago. Cars now start reliably no matter how hot or how cold the temperature is. Years ago when everything was carbureted in winter you just prayed that your car might start and every car had its own personality in what you would need to do to get it going. Now, you get it and turn the key. Plus, it used to be you were lucky to get close to 100K out of an engine or drivetrain. Now, cars can go 2X or more than that IF THEY ARE TAKEN CARE OF! That is the key. Regular and proper maintenance and you will greatly enhance your chances of having a reliable ride.
