Turn signal indicators acting up...

Very often, when I go to cancel the turn signal indicator, it'll start blinking in the opposite direction a couple of times. Other times, turning on the right one will actually cause the left one to blink instead. Very annoying, not to mention dangerous. Anybody had this happen? Common issue? I'm guessing the turn signal switch or stalk is malfunctioning...

Will be scheduling dealer visit for this when time allows...

I think you are correct about the stalk.

You had better make the time considering that the law requires a signal for every turn or lane change and a ticket for failing to signal is not cheap.

If you touch the stalk in either direction (without clicking into place) it will signal 3x for a lane change. I LOVE this feature and use it all the time, my 08 Jetta has it too. I did learn to gently switch off the "clicked" turn signal because if you do it too hasty, it will press and flash in the oppisite direction 3X.

As for your other problem: "Other times, turning on the right one will actually cause the left one to blink instead", Thats whack! Take it in to the dealer for repair ASAP.

Good luck. Post what the dealer discovers.

Took it to the dealer. They said it was an issue with rear SAM (signal acquisition and actuation module). They tried to update software on it and it froze on them, rendering it useless. So they replaced that computer and then reprogrammed it again. However, they really weren't 100% sure that this faulty SAM was causing my blinker issue. I guess we'll drive around and see. I'm just glad this was covered under warranty. Those electronics ain't cheap and the car is infested with them.

Holy Sheeet man!! I thought I was going crazy when this happened to me. the dealer did replace my SAM module but also wanted to blame this on my aftermarket HID set up. I took the HID kit out for 6 months. Sooo.... the problem went away. I just re=installed the HID kit and have had no problems. I am not sure if the HID balasts were creating some interference where they were mounted but I do know the problem is gone now. Sorry to see you had this problem but I am super excited to see that someone else has had the same EXACT issue I had.

Here is my original post and no one ever replied.........

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-problems.html

However, now I will state that I do not think it was the HID kit.

Blinker problem

Just picked up a certified 09 C300 with 20,000 miles on it. Great car except 5 days after picking it up--blinker does not work at times. After I (reset) turn car off and then on, it will work again for a while. Took back to the dealer who said they had a memo on it from MB and they updated the computer. Two days later same thing. Any ideas/or similar problems with the C300? And yes the dealer will be seeing my car again on Wednesday.

UPDATE: 3-4 months later, the issue is back.

HID kit? The car is completely stock.

You're damn right it will be going back to the dealer. I just have to find the time...

Hopefully you are still under warranty. If not I would still try and get it done free of charge since the problem is the same and maybe the dealer too? Anyways good luck.

I have the same issue from time to time. Seems to be intermittent but very annoying.

I also have the same issue with the turn signal for the last 6 months and today it just stopped working altogether. The turn signal and windshield wiper and spray don't work. Going to an MB shop to get some answer.

Am I still under warranty ~@43k miles ??

Do they still work after you turn your car off then back on? I have an issue occasionally where my turn signals won't work all together. However restarting the car seems to fix an issue. I'd say I encounter this once a month...

MB C180 Kompressor
I have just read your posts with interest, as I have been having the EXACT same problem with my C180 Kompressor since Sep 2011, a month after we bought the car. There is no rhyme or reason for when it will do it. The only sure thing is that it WILL do it. It is downright dangerous. At times, it will stop working altogether, as it once did on the motorway at night, when I had no wipers or indicators. Other times, I am indicating to go right on a roundabout or junction, and concentrating on the junction and the other cars, and can of course hear the flasher, thinking it is OK, but it is actually indicating LEFT! This has nearly caused an accident several times, as you can imagine. Anyway, I would be interested to know if you guys have resolved the problem and if so, how?

Please let me know. Cheers.

Still no fix for me. Last time the wife took it to the dealer, the dealer "could not reproduce the problem". Figures...

Same here, been back under AA warranty and wasted a whole day, only to be told they could not reproduce fault. Strangely, the car does this every time we drive it, at least once, even if it is a short drive. I wanted to buy a stalk and fit it myself, but given that it appears to be a 'fairly' common issue, I am wondering if it is the switch! It seems more likely to be a software issue, if it is endemic, rather than a one off. I am going to try the warranty people again when I have another day to waste and will let you know what happens.

Update:
Been to Merc dealer and some £600 later, I am now the proud owner of a new multi function switch (wiper, indicator, cruise)
Let's see if this resolves the 'crazy indicator' problem. I will update after a while.

See, that is what I would expect to be the culprit. But instead, my dealer insisted on replacing one of the car's computers, which seemed to have fixed nothing in the end.

Keep us posted.

turn indicator problem

Well, keeping fingers, toes and other parts of anatomy crossed, all appears to be fine after the changing of multi-function switch. If it continues to be good, it will be the best £600 I ever spent on a Merc.

Well, it appears that the stalk was the offender. Since its change, all has been well and we have not had even one incident of bad behaviour. It's been signalling when it should and in the right direction! and wipers have been working perfectly too. We've got her back the way she was intended, a Merc. Yipppee!!!

Finally got the dealer to agree to replace the stalk. They ordered the part and it should be in in a few days. Let's hope this fixes it.

Well, it's now been about a week since the new stalk (multi-function switch) was installed. So far it appears to be fixed.

This is what they wrote on the invoice:
Turn signal combination switch too sensitive, test switch, springs too loose, R&R steering wheel, replace steering column control module assy, code conrol unit, short test, clear faults, verify repairs

Hi,
It seems that i have the same problem with the you guys. Not to mention, it will also trigger the wipers intermittenly when signalling. I have tried changing the stalk, fuses and relays but nothing works. Nothing shows up on diagnostics either. Any ideas?

C320 CDI Elegance
My C320 is 5 years old and has done 50,000 miles - last week I was driving in the middle lane of a motorway and indicated left to move over and........nothing! When it was safe to do so I tried right and nothing ..indicators dead! The next morning I got ready to organise dealer visit but all working normally
Checked fuse ok - looks like it's the start of faulty indicator switch problem and a £600 bill which I'm not happy about
