New PCMCIA card and still "No Playable Files"...

Been getting the "No Playable Files" message for a while now every time I try to play songs from my memory card. Thought maybe my old PCMCIA card was shot so I bought a new one...and it's still not working. I don't think it's the SD card itself because my desktop and 2 laptops read it fine. I don't think it's the song format because they all used to play at one point.

Time to drop it off for a service appointment?

the playable files need to be on the surface of the SD card.. not within a folder... that was the case with mine..

I don't have any on the root folder but all are folders according to the CD/artists name.

What do you mean when you say it is still not working? You mean even the previous card did not work?

The most common issue is that the PCMCIA adapter does not support SD HC cards but only SD cards. Most often cards up to 2 GB are SD cards and bigger ones are SD HC cards (a few 4 GB exceptions).

The second common issue is that music is AAC-coded while they should be MP3 files (some MB head units support VMA).

I don't think that's true because even when it was working I had my songs grouped into different folders.

Correct...it was working fine since I got the car 2yrs ago up until about 2 months ago. There were times that it wouldn't read the card...but all I had to do was take out the card and put it back in and it would work...but this time nothing works. That's the reason I don't think it's the format of the songs or the kind if SD card I'm using...if either of those were the case it would've never worked in the first place. I thought it could be the SD card needs to be replaced but all my computers are able to read it without any problems

I'm seeing the same issue. Sometimes the memory card option works, sometime it doesn't. Usually i have to pop it out, and put it back in a few times....very frustrating. I am also using very high quality parts (Sandisk PCMCIA adapter, Sandisk Ultra 16GB SDHC).

I'm done wasting money trying to get the card reader to work. Picked up a CD-RW (re-writable CD)...going to burn songs onto a CD then save them on the hard drive. Using a re-writable CD will allow me to just use the same CD to update the hard drive with new songs rather than having to burn an entire new CD just for one or two new songs

Do you mean burning RW-DVDs instead of RW-CDs?

I'd like to test a car that has problems with the PCMCIA slot. I'm still not convinced that your new PCMCIA card is good. Even if the SD HC card works on a PC does not mean the PCMCIA adapter supports it (the same with music content but I understand the memory card and songs on that were the same that used to work in the car, just the adapter was new?). There are dodgy adapters too but most are OK.

I'd try a CF PCMCIA adapter, not possible to get one that would not support the CF memory card. I would let you try mine if you were closer.

So you're saying both PCMCIA cards that I have tried aren't good? The one that worked perfectly fine for 1 1/2yrs and the brand new one I just bought two days ago?

I can't help you there, but my problem may help us figure otu what is going on. When I have a 1gb SD card in the PCMCIA adapter the files read fine, but when I put my 8 gb SD card in, it can't read it.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Are you sure that your 8GB is SD and not SDHC? It's likely that your reader can read SD but can't read SDHC.

I have a similar problem. I inserted a new SD card in the PCMCIA holder and received the message "no readable files." Thinking there was something wrong with the files on the new card, I put the old card back, which had just been playing fine. Now I got the same message -no playable files.
I checked both cards on my PC and they play their files just fine.
One explanation is that the PCMCIA card just went bad at that moment, or I did some damage to the PCMCIA.
Anyone have any other ideas?

Depends on the MY, the first W204s with the card reader only took to 8 or 16GB. Later models were improved and can read the directory for 32GB. I dont know if 64GB cards are supported at all.

Thanks, I bought a PCMCIA adapter from MB and it works fine. Conclusion: The SanDisk adapter went bad and the cheap adapter (~$15) from Amazon was no good.

Since the SanDisk no longer seems to be available, stick with the MB adapter.

Shame on MB for using such ancient technology as late as the 2011 models!

How big of a card can the Mercedes PCMCIA adapter handle? I am trying to load my dads contacts onto his 2009 S class through the PCMCIA adapter and keep getting a "files not recognized" or something like that error.

Maybe "contacts" (are they .db files?) are not recognized as a valid data input format by the headunit, which can recognize folder structures and MPEG files such as MP3, and some movie formats. It is possible that the 2009 S-Class MB was still in last-century antics and could only read either 8GB or 16GB cards.

The Audio 20 headunit on my 2010 C300 refuses to take contact directories via Bluetooth, each contact has to be broadcast individually, and must reconfirm on both the cell phone and the Audio 20 before the contact is added. With over 100 contacts, this process takes hours. My 2004 FORD, I hopped in with the cell in my pocket, the Bluetooth recognized the phone and asked if I wished all the contacts to be transferred, said "yes", confirm once on the cell and it was done. Mercedes high-tech electronics hype is just a dirty lie!!!!

Our two 2004 BMW 3 series reads up to 32GB cards, any size USB and even MP3's recorded in either CD or DVD disks, found out when accidentally stuck a DVD with MP3's into the player, the player even reads the titles. The BMW's radio info is fantastic, showing Artist, Song Track and Album.

The 2010 W204 Audio 20 headunit wont even recognize or display names of Song Tracks or Album Name on original CD's, just "Track 01, Track 02..." etc. Any year 2000 and newer Hyundai is far superior.

My 32GB class 10 SDHC works great, also mp3's on CD/DVD/DVD-DL works great.
https://mbworld.org/forums/5565093-post126.html

I think this PCMCIA slot was very good choice by MB and very future proof. Our comands were developed in early 2000 so there was no certain way to go. Remember that SD/MMC was founded in 2000 and SDHC much later.

No problems with song names or titles with comand... You get what you pay for.

same issue here, at first i bought the PCMCIA slot with the 2 GB cards. only 2 folders in the cards with approximately 30 songs it plays good but when i change to another song from the another folder it stopps and then i can't even do anything even if i want to play from the CD i can't only when i turn on the radio it works. so if i have to turn the whole engine off then turn it on again in order to have it work !!. later on i bought a new card with 8 GB and now i'm trying to gather all songs and put them on the surface on it without sorting them inside folders and see, if nothing change i guess i'll buy the iTrip i guess it much better if nothing changed with a new ipod )

Yes, sadly a 2004 BMW 3 Series and a 2005 Ford Fiesta had higher music playback tech than even Fahad.M's S500, lets not even talk about Nav, voice command and iDrive (for BMW that's available since 2001 !!!!!!!!!!!).

Cheap, old Hondas at least show the name of the title and artist when playing CD's, my 2010 C300 with the stock Audio 20 system labels everything "Track 01, Track 02". Lame, just lame. And shameful for a supposedly "state of the art" Mercedes-Benz product.
