Broken Fog Light Replacement
So of course like many people here one of my fog lights got cracked and shortly after broke. Went to my dealership and was quoted $450 ($200 for the part and $250 for labor) to change ONE fog light!!! insane......
So with the help of some directions found on here I ordered the part from GetMercedesParts.com for $125 and changed it myself. Took me about a half an hour but definitely worth the $325 I saved!!!!!!!

It's so strange knowing that everyone has the same issue with the fog light...and mostly with the passenger side fog light. It should be under warranty. Mine happened a long time ago and I haven't had it replaced. The dealer said...it's because of rocks etc...I don't think so.

It was fairly simple, mines was on the passenger side so I had plenty of room to work with. I would say anyone will be able to do it themselves, it was just a matter of taking out 7 Screws (3 on the mesh grill and 4 holding the foglight assembly). Then 4 clips that you just remove by hand from the wheel bin so that you can reach in and remove the fog light once it is loose.
Also ordered Lamin-x for my for lights so hopefully this will be the last time I will have to change them!
Here are the directions I followed
It isn't hard to change. There are three torx screws holding the trim that surrounds the light. Take these off disconnect the wire harness. Now you will have to take either three or four torx out that holds the light assembly in place. Sounds easy but the heads are on the inside so you will be working blind. After the light is no longer mounted you will have to turn the wheel so you can get to the inside of the wheel well. It is held in place by two piece fasteners the inside pin gets pulled out and then the expansion clip gets pulled out there is either three or four of these. Peal the plastic wheel well cover out and you will be able to pull the light out and put the new one in. Reassembly is the reverse. If you have aftermarket side markers now would be a good time to install them as the wheel well is open. On the drivers side you need to take a few extra fasteners out as you cannot get to it through the wheel well but through the underside. Pretty easy to do once you look at how it is put together.
As far as getting new lights I would order them from the dealer, I don't know of an aftermarket source. An auto salvage yard is also an option. BTW the lights are not exchangable from side to side.

Do you normally let them do these things to you? My SA wouldn't dream of quoting me two hours of labor for switching out a fog light assembly.
Good job on doing it yourself. I only wish I had the tools to do it too!

They told me that labor was going to be high due to the fact that my front bumper would have to be removed. You can just as easily do it without taking off the bumper and just going through the wheel well. Bought myself a $6 torx screwdriver and went to work.

Guys, Amazon now has both the sport and non sport aftermarket fogs for about $30 each. The lenses are most likely not glass, but that also means they won't crack as easily. I just ordered a drivers side and will let you know of the quality. Plus I got my lamin-x in the mail so I'll be protecting them even better now.

Just to give you an update. The plastic cheap ones ~$30 do not work on the sport models. You need the glass round ones that have a meta surround plate and are about ~$60.
I first ordered the top one and there was no way they would fit on my car. So I returned them and got the second one and they fit perfect. Driver's side is a ***** to do though. There's 0 room to work because of the washer fluid tank being right up there.
Here's a pic:
This does NOT work on sport bumpers even though amazon says it does:
This one DOES fit, even though it might say it does not:

Replacement fog light
Perhaps a dumb question, but how do I determine if I have a luxury or a sports bumper? My passenger side light is out, and I want to order a replacement for it. What are folks recommending for the replacement? Is the Hella the best way to go? bimmerspecialist.com or amazon.com?
Thanks!
Thanks!
