Anyone have a rear/back up camera in the Miami area? I've seen the do-it-yourself thread, but I would prefer to pay someone with experience.

I don't blame you for not wanting to take on this project. However I just completed mine last month and it was a piece of cake but time-consuming. I've never done anything like that before and was hesitant to give it a try. But I'm glad I did and I saved a bunch of money.

I got all parts for the camera installation. I also hesitated for a while, but think just give it a try. It's my weekend car so I can really take time to do it very carefully. I'd appreciate it if you could answer:

1. do you start wiring from trunk lid, or from COMAND unit in the front?
2. what does FARKA(?) cable do and where does it connect to? My camera manual does not say anything about FARKA cable; it only shows power cable and video cable.
3. do you route cable under the carpet, or up across the ceiling?
4. any other tips and suggestions?

1. I started in the trunk and pulled the wire to the front of the car. On the passenger side, I ran the cable down the side of the back seat and under the door sills. All the parts are plastic and held on with clips. Just pull gently (but firm, if that makes sense) up. All those parts will come off. Run the cable through the "track" all the way to the front passenger foot well. Remove the plastics to the right and above the passenger foot well. Pull out your head unit and then run the cable into the dash area. There's a small opening for you to run the cable. Be sure not to put it inside the AC duct that is visible from the foot well area.
2. The FARKA cable has a RCA female end and a FARKA end. Plug the cable you pulled from the trunk and plug it into the RCA side of the cable. The FARKA side will plug into the back of your head unit. Check the other rear camera DIY's for pictures of all this and where you can buy your FARKA cable.
3. Some people have routed the cable above the headliner. Personally, I didn't want to interfere with the operation of the curtain airbags. Besides, running it under the door sills was super easy.
4. Like I said in an earlier post, if you are using a cheap camera, don't connect it to the reverse light for power. Use a constant ignition power source. Those wires are available to tap into in the passenger side fuse area of the trunk. Instead of cutting your wires and splicing, use these wire tap in squeeze connectors from Radio Shack. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...lickid=prod_cs.
Finally, be sure to test everything thoroughly before you start putting the car back together. The other DIY forums have a wealth of infomation and pictures to get you going. Kudos to those guys for taking the time to document everything. I never found pictures of the door sills removed to get an idea of how to run the cables. I am curious about why reverse light power is noisy than constant power. They all come from battery in the front, but through different relays and switches. If none of them are shielded, both will get noise along the way.

The advantage of using reverse power is that camera is used only for a very short time; it does not need power otherwise. Maybe a low-pass filter will solve the problem? Anyone knows what power the factory camera uses?

I am waiting for the Amazon dash prying tool to arrive. I used wire tap before but one or two of them got loose. Maybe I didn't press them hard enough. I will probably solder the joint, or use some T shaped connectors.

The camera has a power on time and a delay to develop a sync signal. Camera power draw is under 100 milliamps (< .1 amps). If it is a good camera (i.e., better CCD), then power on all the time is no problem. One reason we go on and on about avoiding CMOS cameras. There is not one single car manufacturer that uses a CMOS camera outside the car.

i have a 2011 Ford F-350 and I pull a boat with my truck so I got a reverse back up camera install here in Miami. I love it it's great and makes it easy for me to pull the boat out of the water BTW I got it installed by Auto Alarm Specialist here in Miami they came out to my job and install it .

please IM me for the camera.. I have a 2012 GLK with the nav and command.. the large screen.. I have enabled the back up camera on R..
so when I got on R I see the black screen with the lines .. so as you mentioned all I need is the camera correct??
