SRS System Question
If you have an SRS light on in the car does it shut the whole system down or just the piece with the error?
I am asking about the front headrests specifically.
Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the active headrests so they don't trigger the SRS light?

Not to sound like a wise-guy, but why not just have the head restraints repaired? They provide a significant benefit to your cervical vertebrae in the event of rear impact...what is more valuable than that?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the current headrests. I am interested in putting a different set of headrests in.
The car is not driven daily but I would like to avoid the SRS light and having the system turn off.

Edit: I just saw the new post on the DVD screens. I guess you're a parent. Your head and neck are very valuable!!

I have never even had an accident in all my years of driving. My 2005 C230 had different headrests and it was never a problem.
I understand the risks, I have found a bypass that allows the SRS system to still work fine.
Thanks for the concern though.

It's your car and you should do whatever makes you happy.. but that whole "we were ok without it" argument is very weak. We also survived for years without DVD players.. and without cars in general. Just because we did doesn't make what we have now less valuable.

Count me in on 05_MB_Komp's camp. It's his car and his neck. Not everybody owns a Mercedes just for safety purposes. Risk has two axes: Probability and Impact. Low probability and a medium impact combine to a pretty low risk score.
