I know I am going to get a lot of flak for this, but I really like it.

Depends on how you connect the star, if you go by the book and install the CAN control unit it only works on facelift models.
As the system only is lit when locking and unlocking your car in dark ambient light I wanted to rewire it for permanent illumination.
The star is luckily using 12V so I simply hooked it up to the headlight parking lights (the C in the headlight)
By doing this the star is lit just as it should if hooked up with the CAN unit but now it is also permanetly lit as long as the parking lights are, and that is with darker ambient lighting.

Part number for star only: A2078170416, will fit all W204 OE grills with the centre star.
If you want to build your own wiring harness you need a plug and two connector pins, unfortunately I dont have those part numbers available here.

Wait a sec. did you replaced the entire grille of just the star itself? I was thinking of having this connected on the eyelids of the pre-facelift model so that just like what you did just connect it to the "c" LEDs of the facelifted headlamps. If I do that would you know if I just tap on the wiring of the eyelids would work?

Funny but I kinda like it...not quite sure why as I have always thought the Star was too big (pretentious) on our cars.
Of course I tend to like hatchbacks and wagons which puts me squarely in the minority in the States.

vic_viper,
I just googled that part number and found it at ebay for +$400. These are the part numbers that came with it:
A2078170416 Mercedes Star
A1669002808 Control Unit
A2078200013 Wiring Harness
Three questions now:
1. Do I still need the control unit if I will be tapping this directly on the headlamp eyelids?
2. Do I need the A2078200013 Wiring Harness for that or should I just make my own?
3. If I do not need the wiring harness what kind of cable can I use?
It would be great if you can take a picture of what your wiring looks like for everyone to see.

To do this you would only need A2078170416, this is the star assembly and you swap this with your standard one in your grill.
You could buy the harness to take advantage of the illuminated star connector and approx 1m length of wire.
If not using the harness you simply need any 2 lead cable and the proper connector, I will provide part numbers for the connector later.
Cant show you any pictures I am afraid as all of my wiring is invisible from the engine bay, but as the star uses a 12V supply and has a very low current draw you should be able to hook it up to anything providing 12V without problems.
