what tires do you recommend?

Hey guys,

I have a blown tire, and the rest are starting to wear out heavily, i was looking at the tire rack.com but theres so many options and barley buy tires to know much of the differences, i saw the OEM one's but there at $600 plus installation.

What tire do you recommend for good all season use (east coast) trying to keep it under $500 if possible.

the two that caught my eye were :

Kumho Ecsta 4X

and

Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval AS

let me know what you guys recommend, I have absolutely 0 luck with tires and wind up replacing them with used ones religiously and now i rather just invest in new ones.

thanks!

I just replaced mine with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's. So far, I love them. I don't have much experience with other tires, but the Pirelli's that came with the car when I bought it were horribly loud, the new ones are a lot more quiet and I definitely enjoy my daily commute a lot more.

Great grip so far in the wet and dry, but I can't comment on their snow performance. Lots of other threads that cover that though.

If you're going all-season, go with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's.

OEM Conti's are barely mediocre.

+1 for the AS3. The LAST place to skimp on a car is the tires....the only contact your car has (or is supposed to have!) with the rest of the world!

The Michelin's are good, but $$$s. For my next set, I am going with those Pirelli P7 all seasons.

+1 Most folks dont understand that a good set of tires is head and shoulders above any other type of performance mod you can do to your car in terms of value.

There is no other mod that will improve acceleration, braking and handling all at the same time, while maximizing driver safety.

where do you buy your tires ?

I was looking at costco and sears but they both seem like they charge an outrages amount of money to put the on, balance and have tire insurance.

Just bought Michelin PS AS3's from Costco. they charged $15 per tire to install and provide their road hazard warranty (by far, the least expensive in my 3 state area... total with 6% tax was under $890. This even beat out TireRack)

i was looking at discounttiredirect.com there charging me $705 for all 4, with the certificate for replacement and a $70 visa gift card.

I'm thinking this is the best deal so far?

I also purchased through Costco, $15/tire plus added road hazard warranty is worth it.

The Discount Tire Direct price seems good, but be sure to get the tires installed by a good shop and find out before-hand how much they charge for installation. It might end up being close to the Costco total price in which case I would go with them.

I got quoted at $20 per tire to be installed, mounted and balanced. How is costco's road hazard protection? my problem has been persistent with bubbles in the tire and not flats, does costco just replace them or pro rates the thread life?

I have Continental Extreme DWS. Love them--quiet, yet still enough grip. Not the same tire as OEM ContiPro Contacts that came with the car--Extreme's are much better and last longer, too.

Just to be clear, I have staggered 18" AMG wheels. That could be why my set was more.

Depending on your Budget, Michelin or Continental are excellent choices.
