Parking lights come on for no reason (car is off!)
Hello everyone,
I have a 2009 C300 4matic, and I have an electrical problem with the car, which is that the front right parking lamp and the rear right parking lamp regularly come ON when no lights should be on (lights are in off position, car is off and alarm is set), which causes my battery to drain, so if I don't drive the car for more than 24 hours, the battery will sometimes be dead. (I have removed non-essential front bulbs, but the problem persists). I might add that I have had to set the driving lights to 'always on' position to prevent my headlights from randomly going off at night! Another oddity is that when I actually turn ON the rear parking lights when the car is running, the left one comes on as expected but the the right one (which comes on when it's not supposed to) actually goes OFF! Then I can switch the lights back off and both go off (until the next time the right one decides to illuminate for no reason).
So, I realize that this is an electrical issue, but I'm wondering if there is ANY chance that I can buy some replacement parts and attempt to fix this without going to the dealership. (Yes, funds are a little tight at the moment). Has anyone else experienced this problem and fixed it without a mechanic? I would like to check out the offending circuit board (if I knew where it was) and perhaps buy an OEM board and just pay the dealership to replace it, but I'd like to get some input and/or advice by fellow owners before committing.
Thanks!
Will Lehman

There's a recall for a faulty harness ground in the 2008 models. I got it in the mail a couple of months ago. May be the same problem in the 2009 models. I'd call MBUSA with the vin number.

Please check this thread from 2012. I had the same symptom. I now keep the light switch at auto position after it was replaced.

Like other members mentioned above. It's a bad light switch. I came back home after a 3 day trip, and the car had no reaction when I used the remote to unlock the car. MB roadside came and gave me a new battery under warranty right before my warranty went out too.
The dealership's mechanic wouldn't warranty me the switch unless I showed them proof. The next time it happened, I recorded a video with the parking lights staying on with my switch at the off position.

Leave the switch in Auto problem solved.... mine has been in auto for years now and nil flickering intermittent park lights, if it is in off position the light flicker.
I think it is the grease in the switch conducting electricity just enough momentarily to switch on the lights, keep happy in Auto...

Replace the switch and leave the switch on AUTO,
