Winter tire size question

It's not really a great solution for winter, so no real value in spending the money to try that formula. Wider is worse on snow and ice. The goal is to hold at 225 or, even better, get 215/50-17 for improved winter traction. There used to be one guy here who thought wider tires somehow worked better on snow, but we sent him back to Physics class!

2009 C Class 300 4Matic Sport
I run studded winters on my staggered sport rims. 235 45 17, is the narrowest tire you can get on the wider rear rim. Works excellent and Im located in BC and drive to the big white almost every weekend so the winter driving here is pretty extreme. I do have 4matic though and I have had zero issues.
