I have a 2008 c300 Benz. I can't figure out this strange whining noise coming from the front end. I made a YouTube video and you can hear the low pitch whine. My 09' C300 Sport had the same whining sound around 1000-3000rpm until the Poly V belt shattered while driving on the HWY. Lost power steering, power, the whole deal but still managed to limp the car another 5km home. The idler pulley was jammed and the belt came off from there. It happened after leaving the car wash, so I assume the ceased idler pulley was hot and cold water shatter the plastic guide/guard which shredded the belt. I heard ticking sounds similar to sand hitting the car's under body. I'm going to replace the idler pulley and belt, hopefully nothing else was damaged.
