Upgrading Facelist W204 screen
Hi Guys,
Has anyone successfully upgraded from the basic small screen (no navi, no HK, no comand online) to the larger 7 inch screen? I was curious if this is possible or even worth doing. Where did you buy your parts and how difficult was it?

hey sev7nflow,
I had (and still have) the same exact question as yours. See my thread here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...reen-size.html
Nobody really chimed in so i'm assuming either nobody has bothered to attempt it or its just too pricey. One of the posters in that thread referred to this as a possible solution: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2-din...=9263&cv=15091
Not even sure what that really is, but I suppose this guy is selling a whole unit that does it all (including a 7" touch screen). I really wish to keep everything and just upgrade to the OEM 7 inch screen but as someone pointed out, I think the screen resolution will be all messed up as we don't have COMAND.
On another note, it looks like the whole gauge cluster would need to be replaced in order to upgrade the screen size.
cheers,
allen

So I just replaced my Audio 20 head unit. Here's what I found out in the process.
First, you can put any option MB makes in your car; sirius, Navi, CD changer, etc. but you,ll have to have the dealer code the system to the car and that can get expensive. They can charge what ever they want.
Second, start looking around esp. LKQ site on Ebay. You'll see how expensive the parts for a retrofit can get. You want the pop-up screen right? You're gonna need the head unit as well. Don't forget any modules you don't have, ie sirius or backup cam. This can easily run to $1500 or more.
Don't forget the labor involved. You'll have to run new wires and take apart some of the dash and center console.
The used head unit from a GLK cost $225. The labor to put it in was $225 (had the shop put a new center vent in and an AMG leather shift knob while everything was taken apart.) Luckily the head unit was from the same year as mine and didn't need to be coded at the dealer. Any other year and it would have had to. I was informed it would be a $300 charge at the dealer.
