Fuel Pipe Leaking

2008 C300 Sport - 80K miles. Came back to car in parking lot and found large pool of fuel under the rear. On closer inspection there are two fuel lines running from tank to front of car - on drivers (left) side. The return line (blue and back in picture below) has a hose connector on it (plastic nut with green clip) that had come off and hence hose was loose (since connected - but not sealed). I tightened nut back up. This seems like a major safety issue. Will check with dealer tomorrow. Has anyone else seen this ?

thx

Update

Dealer said that underbody shield is missing and you should not be able to see fuel pipes. (Does anyone have picture of their driver side rear underbody so I can see what shields should look like ? ). They want to replace fuel line (maybe connector is damaged ?) and shield - cost is $1600 ! (due to labor to drop fuel tank to replace hose)

Green clip

I went to see car on the lift - the green retaining clip broke so nut on end of fuel line will not stay on - dealer ordered new clips - but they are different from the original - wil not fit - so now they say to replace whole fuel line - so it will have new nut and hopefully clip fits ...

Anyone out there know if you can just order the green clip separately ?

Dorman ?

Did some more research - there is a Dorman clip for VW/Audi fuel lines - apparently BMW also does not just sell the clip - you need to buy the entire line - but the same clip fix. Going to ask the dealer if they can use one of those clips on mine - will let you know

Well - I never did find out if Dorman clip fits or if there is a mercedes clip that fits. Dealer ordered new fuel pipe - the fittings on that are different from my original - so they must have updated the design. Part was about $60 but 3+ hours to fit ( they didn't need to drop tank - just loosen it and go in from the rear seat - plus I had to pay for new undertrays that were missing at rear - $250 each or so ... Expensive job

Good to have safety items done correctly. JC
