Paint it dead. My progress on my w204

I have been toying with vinyl for a little while and decided to wrap the car. Material is on the way but here is some of my practice I was doing to test different manufactures of vinyl.

First pictures are of the car stock.

Next a buddy of mine gave me a factory spoiler but it was pearl white so i wrapped it gloss black and the match is perfect.

also wrapped the rear molding above license plate.

Lastly the main thing I don't like about pre-face lift w204 is the turn signal mirror chrome being so big so i fixed that.

Love the color! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
How long do you figure it'll take to do the whole car?
I want to re-wrap my roof, but I'll do it myself...the last shop was crap.

Not sure I'm a perfectionist so a few days. I do one panel at a time wash it clay bar it and clean the with wax and grease remover & alcohol then vinyl. I'm removing lights mirrors handles and moldings.

Looking forward to seeing the progress on your wrap. Always toyed with the idea of self wrapping... seen it done at the shop and didn't look too hard, but probably one of those things that's deceptively difficult. I can barely saran wrap leftovers lol.

Nice. Wrap jobs look to be a booming business. We have a ton of them here in SoCal. Cheap (compared to respray) and reversible way to have some fun when oem color scheme gets boring

Not to Mention the protection. If you'd buy a car new wrap it right away in 5 years when you goto sell it peel the wrap and not a single blemish. I'd like to do clear wraps eventually for protection. Also takes a standard paint job and makes it look show quality.

The vinyl doesn't do too much for protection due to thickness right? I had a clear bra on mine but that was fairly thick. Problem with clear bra was discoloration and porous nature could have color transfer with tinted waxes if not careful. Although it did do wonders against rock chips.... even if it was just holding the chipped paint against the bumper. Went with Venture Shield.

If it is taken care of properly it should last 5 to 7 years. Discoloration is where quality vinyl comes into play

Great progress so far! Looks amazing and I love the color.
Will you be leaving the top to keep the gloss black?

I'm not huge on the color its ok. Was hoping it was darker.
But for now I am going to leave the roof black just because I'm ready to drive my mercedes again. I love my cummins but I miss my benz.
