Angry C350 4matic extreme vibration

So, I have a Mercedes C350 4matic that has always driven beautifully but last week it started vibrating in the back when I accelerated a bit at highway speeds. If just gunned down on the accelerator it would not vibrate.

I took it to Mercedes and was told that there was a grinding sound in my rear differential and that it needed to be replaced and was quoted $6k for it. I got used differential from a c350 4matic that only had 10k on and had it installed, since that was being done I also had the Transmission fluid changed as well. When I picked up the car everything was ok, the car drove fine but 3 days later the problem came back and was a lot worse.

This time when I drive it starts to vibrate even at low speeds and when I get to some speeds and play with the accelerator a bit I can find a spot that the vibration stops completely, but when I accelerate or decelerate it comes back. Also, I tried shifting the transmission to neutral while the vibration was happening and when I did that vibration continued.

I have so far spent more then 3k without fixing the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tires have been checked, rims have also been checked to make sure they were not bent. And with the amount of vibration, there is no way its a tire problem. I just can't find out what it is.

Bearings have been checked as well. The car is at a local Shop that I have been using for years now, as I have decided to not take it to the stealership because they obviously have no clue what the hell their are doing.

In addition to what has been checked, I would have the drive shaft(s) checked. An out-of-balance drive shaft (they spin at higher RPM than the tires) will wreak havoc with drivability.

I had that checked as well. Its strange, but I am sure the guys at the garage will figure it out. Once I hear back from them I will post what it was.

I am lucky that I have my other car and my wife has her but, I really hope to get my c350 back as I don't want to drive 45min to work and back with the SLS, the miles will add up pretty quick!

After reading that is what I am thinking as well. The vibration is only happening when the wheels has pressure from the ground, when on the lift no vibrations. I am having the car brought back to my car age and will drop the tranny down and do a full inspection. I was hoping to get this done by garage because I just don't have the time, but now seems I will have to make time to do it myself.

I will let you guys know.

So today I finally got my extreme vibration fixed. I ended up having to take some time off and took upon myself to take care of the issue. I dropped my tranny (took me about 4 hrs of pain in the *** work) and found that the transfer case was shot to ****. I did a complete rebuild of it, ended up costing me about $250 bucks all together. I got the parts from a friend who works at a local transmission shop here in Montreal.

When I took off the transfer case there was metal shaving everywhere and looked like grounded coffee. After rebuilding everything, cracked open the transmission as well to make sure everything was ok, I was concerned that it was affected in some way. After cracking transmission open everything looked pretty clean, clutches and gears were all in very good condition.

I put transmission back together and took to a friends shop who has a dynamometer to check it out and thank god it was all perfect. Finished putting the tranny back in the car (another pain in the *** but this time had a friend to help) took for a test drive and the car was smooth.
