Please Help : Cruise Control is not working (C300)
Hi all,
I am Frey, 28years, woman and new to this forum.
I just bought used W204 C300 (my first Mercedes), the condition is very good and almost 40.000 KMs.
The problem is the Cruise Control is not working, no any error messages, I checked the car to authorized dealer and they scanned the car with no errors also.
All the ESP, ABS etc are not errors
But when I push the CC Stick, the scanner is communicated with the CC but it can't active.
Nothing showing in the MID that indicated the CC is active nor the limit when I push the stick.
After 6 hours of working, we dont have any ideas how to fix this.
Here is the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHPz...ature=youtu.be
Any help would be very appreciated.
regards,
Frey

I just picked up my fist Mercedes too. I've found the CC system one of the simplest to use out of any car I've driven. What year is the car?
That stick looks completely different on my car. My CC control is a shorter stick below the turn signal/wiper controls.

Can I assume you have read the manual on the CC?
My 2013 C350 cruise is on a shorter stick below the one in the vid. And I'm sure CC doesn't operate when the car isn't moving above x km/hr. You just have the engine running. My car isn't here right now so I can't check this.
If you're at speed and using the right stick and it doesn't work, has the fuse been checked (assuming is has a fuse).

Thank you for reply.
My W204 is 2010 year.
I did check to the authorized Mercedes dealer for service and they cant find the error.
I tried the other W204 cruise control and the display is change, waiting to set input of the speed (the car is not moving), but mine is nothing happened like the video's showed.
Thank you again.

I'd make sure the dealer got that figured out. Even if they had to replace the whole system it's on them to do it under warranty.
Our model years are different. What you do in the video would activate my window washers

Before 2012 the C class had the cruise control shaft mounted above the turn signal/multifunction shaft. In 2013 and after the multifunction shaft was moved to the top.

In your video you pushed in and a yellow light came on located on the stick. You turned off the light before you tried the up and down. I have not seen this light on any of the MB's I have driven, nor do I find mention of it in any of my manuals. Where is this car? Again I would try it with the yellow light on.
I have heard of people having trouble with the switch module in the steering column. Since the diagnostics do not report a code, and the fuse is good, suspect this module is not sending out a signal. That is why the computer doesn't report a code, because it doesn't know you tried to set the speed control. With 40,000, a dealer should fix this under the new car warranty.

I mentioned the mechanic about the steering assist also, but he said it is not.
He is thinking about the software, now he is trying to update the car software and he has to download from MB Germany.
I really love this car, the engine, stability, comfort are superb.
Only the sensors are very scary and expensive for service and parts.
Now I am at the MB workshop and I hope they can find the error.
My ex car was Toyota Mark X, the power and engine is also very good but this C300 is more superb.
I sold it for this C300.
About the warranty, I think no warranty anymore? Or still warranty? Think of the C300 is almost 5 years old.
Thank you Bob.

Where are you located? I'd guess somewhere in Asia given the Mark X?
In the US most car places have at least a 30 day warranty on sales but they can be problematic unless pressed.
Any German car has expensive scary parts, even VW . But they tend to be well built for the most part.

I can tell you my 2012 C300 will only set cruise when in motion and I believe it is above 35-40 MPH as well. If just sitting it does nothing and it wont set at low speeds either. This is true of most all cars in my experience, not just MB.

One a little problem is, I think my wheels have a very little misalignment, may be around 5 degrees, can it be the problem?

Tomorrow they will check and swap the battery from another car before I decide to buy new battery.
They make a case tips to Mercedes is Germany, let we see what is the suggestion.
I mentioned about the alternator also, but they said it is fine.

btw, i found one clue, when I pressed the ESP OFF button, there is no any sign on or light on on the dashboard display. I think it is the problem, I cant turn off my ESP by the button, I think it is the problem, anyone has any experience about this?

Strange. On the newer C-Class the ESP is turned off through the menu system.
I wonder if someone had replaced the steering wheel and not hooked things back up properly?
Perhaps they had changed out the wheel to something else then put the stock parts back on without doing and module recoding? Just grasping at straws here. I don't know as much about these cars yet.
When people swap out steering wheels sometimes switches and things don't work until the computer gets coded properly.

Nice detective work!
I'm surprised there were no codes or ESP warning light. I wonder how the CC and ESP are interconnected? I guess if you lost traction the CC should disengage.
