Projector Retrofit
Does anyone have any experience either doing a Mini H1 or Mini D2S projector retrofit in their post facelift headlights? I was wondering if you needed to cut any of the bowl to get the projector to screw in properly?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Check The Retrofit Source, I think they make projectors that just screw in the H7 hole. Not the cheap ones from china, I think they're morimoto units but can't remember. The output and cutoff is quite good.

If you're going to go to the trouble of a retrofit over buying a full PNP aftermarket projector housing - you may as well go for a decent projector.
Go for an FX-R 3.0 at a minimum. The Mini's are ok, and work well for beginners as you literally just push them through the existing bulb hole and screw a locking nut on from behind, then trim shroud to suit - but the output isn't that great; not that wide and some foreground shadowing. That was my experience.
This time round I've gone with FX-R's on my BMW - and the cutoff and clarity beats my C300 with factory bi-xenon hands down. And with a 50W ballast and XB35 bulbs - the output is also better. Only thing the Merc has over the retrofit is the adaptive lighting function.

I realize the output of a FXR is better than Mini H1 or MD2S, however, I want to do as little cutting and moddification as possible so I limited my self to these two projectors.
I used the RetroQuick kit on my old WRX and thought the MD2S did well, but I wasnt sure if it was too big to seat correctly in the reflector.

I know the mini H1 will go straight in - it's a small projector and the w204 halogen housings are huge. You may need to do quite a bit of trimming to get the shroud to sit right, and it will be a difficult shape to get right as there is a lot of side profile which won't hide any mistakes.
Honestly, I'd just go some PNP lights - sell your halogens to offset the difference. The result will be much neater, output similar and without any headaches.
Only reason I'd persist with a retro where a PNP isn't available is if you wanted to fit a top line projector (like an LS460 etc) or do some crazy paint combo on the housings.
