Kleemann performance air filter, worth it?

Hi guys, I am debating on putting a new air filter on my M271 EVO motor (c200 cgi)

On my m117 motor a performance air filter makes a night and day difference as opposed to stock.

What i'm looking at is this Kleemann air filter made for my motor. Being made by Kleemann I doubt it's a gimmick, I don't want to fit a K&N that probably doesn't even fit properly on this motor.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I would like to hear the engine and turbo a bit more also. The only issue is that the Australian dealer for this part is asking $339 AUD for just the filter, it's a lot of money...

Don't bother with these filters that go into the stock intake box. For what they cost you, they won't give you any significant gain. If you're seriously after a filter, the BMS pod filters are probably the way to go if you live somewhere pretty cold. Mercedes has done a pretty good job with the stock intake and filter, I wouldn't waste money on filters.

Yeah I've read that the factory intake is good, I am more doing it for the sound rather than the performance the C200 CGI goes quite well aside from a bit of turbo lag.
I did just find out that K&N make a direct replacement however and I can get it on amazon and freight forward it to Melbourne pretty cheap, about $70 so I might just do that and see how I go.

yep, i'd say the k&n filter should do fine. with the kleeman filter you're basically paying for the name imo. k&n filters are great, might not do too much in the sound department, at most the k&n filter will help the engine to breathe a bit more.

Watched a video on YouTube of a C250 owner swapping his stock filter for a K&N. A few months later he left this comment:

"after a few months with the K&N, I CAN NOT recommend it to anyone, Please feel free to use the video as a general guide for replacing the stock engine air filter. K&N caused dust particles to get through and affect the MAF/MAP Sensor, It also changes the boost characteristics in Turbo cars such as Benz C250 Coupe. Better to stick with OEM Mercedes Filter.".

the reason for the dust build up is the oil used on the filters by k&n, it has been known for years for fouling up maf sensors with micro dust.

A lot of threads calling the dust particles ruining mafs bogus. Even k&ns website has an article on it with thorough testing and backing their filters. From reading comments its usually just dealerships just blaming the air filter.

Smile K & N filters work

I use K & N filters on all my vehicles and never had fouled MAF. Check out K & N videos on the subject from their web site. I think I understand why the "urban legend" developed: competition from other air filter manufactures and owners over oil the filter after cleaning.

yacoub.alyacoub, did you get any CEL errors with the Kleemann downpipe?
