Track info for CDs?

Track info for CDs?
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how the Comand system gets the album cover and track info? I know some discs can be encoded with this info but I have some old discs that date back from as early as 89-91 that Comand has info on.
The only thing I can figure is the head unit has a local database of some sorts. But that also seems overkill.

Thanks, I guess I should have read the manual.
Interesting thing is that it says the map updates and the gracenote database are updated at the same time. Luckily nobody buys CDs anymore or this feature would be a pain.
