Oil extractor

Hey guys,

MV7400 Fluid Evacuator OR MITYVAC 07201? or something else?

Im going to do my own oil change after the dealer jacked up the price to $225, i last paid $179.99.

anyone have a preference oil extractor, i've read a lot of people use the MITYVAC.

I was planning on buying the MV7400 but i wanted to know what others on here use.

I do have a hoist and can do the old school method but I would like to try this method out, it seems like a cleaner job and less things to remove.

Appreciate the help!

I've been using an MV7400 clone for my 3 cars since 2008, from Griot's Garage if that matters any. Great way to change oil or bleed brakes without the fuss or getting dirty. You pump it a few times, let the vacuum do the rest while you change the filter and o-rings. Make sure you warm up the oil a bit so it flows a lot faster.

I don't know what capacity that MV7400 is but it may take more than one container-full. Device paid for itself after the first use.

We use the mighty-vac at our shop. It is much easier than the old fashioned way. In fact I recommend it to anyone but a CLA/GLA owner. With the 222's its actually required on account of their plastic oil pans.

I bought a Mity Vac and it had a defective valve so it didn't evacuate. I called CS and they sent me another valve. CS rep told me that a bunch of these were sold with defective valves and/or a defective top seal. Works good now but a PITA.

I have this one,
Amazon.com: Air Power America 5060 Topsider Multi-Purpose Fluid Removing System: Automotive Amazon.com: Air Power America 5060 Topsider Multi-Purpose Fluid Removing System: Automotive

The downside is you can't see the level but it works great.

Thanks that one was my third option, i saw it on youtube. The reason i liked that on was the size and you could place it in the engine bay. With the MV people gripe about knocking it over and it being so tall but i don't think i will have that issue hahaha.

I was in the EXACT same scenario as you last year. Both MityVACS as my 1st and 2nd pick with the topsider being my 3rd.

In the end I went with the 7201 because unlike the 7400, you never have to pour anything out from the top, since I can reverse the vacuum and dispense the dirty oil neatly back into containers the new oil came in.

I really wanted to like the topsider, however I wanted it to be transparent so I can better gauge the status of everything.

ahaha thanks Funk, normally I would jump at the situation but I think I'm going to go buy that MV extractor tomorrow and change my oil Monday. Might as well buy it for future changes when I move to the GTA.

I'm not sure it this is the case with all the extractors but they are very powerful devices. If you apply too much vacuum it can deform seals and cause them to leak air. I had better results by going on the lower end of pumps.

Not a concern for oil changes, I don't think the 7201 (I have the same one) produces enough vacuum to damage anything. I usually loosen the oil filter before vacuuming out the oil so the oil in the filter housing drains down a little faster anyway

Where I had the issue was on a gasket for my extractor. It got sucked in enough to break the seal. But that was just a minor learning experience.

These things make changing oil a fun and clean project.

Just ordered the MV 7201, it should be in tomorrow. Also ordered the Oil filter wrench from MB, it should also be in tomorrow.

I have to go buy 5w-40 tomorrow, as thats what the dealer used on every service to date.

Also I'm probably going to go with the Mann HU 718/5 x oil filter.

Cant wait to do my first MB oil change! Thanks for all the tips/help guys!

I don't think the oil would matter too much. Both are 40 weight at operating temperature. Everything I've read suggests synthetics can be mixed.

You could pick up some liquid molly mos2 if you want to go all out.

There won't be much left over anyways once i pump it out. from what i've seen on youtube videos theres not even half a cup left over and if you really want it out you can just take a little longer to do it and possible get the majority .

I'm just going to go with 0w-40 Mobil 1 and defiantly the Mann filter its a lot cheeper than OEM.

The dipstick is at the front of the engine. I park on a slight grade with the front on the downhill side. In my mind this enhances complete extraction.

My personal observations and tips:

...don't forget to warm up the engine first, or you'll be extracting for a very long time.
...extract with the oil cap off, so you don't build up negative pressure in the engine.
...which ever hose you put in the dipstick, MAKE SURE it is long enough to reach the bottom without using an extension so it can't get stuck inside the dipstick tube.
...after you are done extracting from the dipstick tube, you can stick the hose down the oil filter drain and get more out.
...if you choose to dispense dirty oil back into the original oil containers, make sure you babysit it near the end (as in hold the hose with your hands) since during the sputtering process it will fling around like a garden hose making a hot mess all over your garage (ask me how I know).
...Once you do your first extraction, you'll most likely want to bleed your own brakes later...which means you'll probably want to buy the bleeder cut off valve.

...and this is especially true for me personally...
...You'll never want to own another car WITHOUT a dipstick tube and the oil filter being on top again.

This is genius. I just bought my c450 and this would be great. I love to work on my own cars. I figure I could use it on my '13 F150 and bikes too! Any concerns with using this type of system to "getting all the gunk out".

Better yet, get a tube with a rubber plug that seals around the top of the dipstick tube. The oil will be drawn up the tube, and with a 4matic car, the full amount of oil will be extracted

I went out and picked up all the stuff, oil was on sale at Canadian tire if you need it $39.99 for 4.4L. $16 for the Mann filter at Altrom Canada Corporation on Exeter Rd.

I saw a video on youtube some one did have some plug on the hose that plugged the end of the dip stick. I wouldn't even know where to get one, if you have one what size and where did you get it?
