2013 Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic to get detuned 3.5L V6
Ladies & Gents,
I recently bought a 2013 C300 matic which I had originally leased. Just discovered that the motor on this car is exactly the Same V6 3.5 litre direct ingestion motor that is on the C 350. MB just detuned to form a distinction for sales purposes. Please see article below
http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/11/2...tuned-3-5l-v6/
I had got in touch with me MB Mechanic here in Vienna VA and asked him if he can tune it back to the original power and torque (as in the C 350) he referred me to http://www.renntechmercedes.com/ down in Florida apparently these guys are kings in tuning MB engines. I called to see if this could be done and a Gentlemen who is the actual tech stated that most he could do is a ECU tune which will give me an additional 12 to 15 HP and a little bit of TQ, however he says the performance is as good as the C350. It costs about $900 to do a ECU tune. Can anyone shed any light on this please.

C300 2013 M-Benz
Why cant the tuners make it 302hp like the C350? There should be a way to copy the tune for the C350 and write it over the 248hp C300, but maybe I am missing something (I am no tuner or programmer).
I would pay $900 for +54hp upgrade rather then 12-15hp. Either be it Crank or wheel hp.

Not sure about tuning for the M276, but I do know that the C300 has a 3.06 axle ratio compared to the C350s 2.86 axle ratio.
If you were to tune a C300 to be equal in power to a 350, you'd accelerate faster than a 350, but have worse highway fuel economy and a theoretically lower top speed (but still above 250km/h I believe)

^^^Which tune did you end up with?
You guys also have to consider the drivetrain power loss between rwd and 4matic. The delta is what is important and looks like a 50whp gain is possible.

if im not wrong, you've got 249 hp, and c350 has 306 hp, its possible to do flash tune by virginizing your ecu and flashing original firmware from c350 to your c300 ecu with SCN-coding. There are many cars in Russia, that tuned like that, its C-klasse, E-klasse, GLK and maybe more. Its like bmw flashing from 320i to 328i or something like that. But I believe its too expensive to pay 900$ for that.

I thought that the c350 actually has different cylinder heads and cams than the c300.
So when they same it's the same engine but detuned, what they mean is sure, its 3.5L, using the block and rotating assembly, but the cams and cylinder heads are different, which is where the additional power comes from. I also believe that the c350 is higher compression than the c300.

I have a friend who's a merc master mechanic, and when I was asking him about the difference between the 2013 c300 and c350 motors, he was the one that said the 350 had higher compression, and different heads and cams. Maybe he's wrong, I'm searching to see if I can find out somewhere in detail about the motors.
GM does similar things with their v8's. It's common for the higher performance motors to have the similar blocks, but different heads and cam.

I compared part numbers between the same year 300 and 350 of the oem engine components and didn't find any differences of the main components.
Considering MB has detuned engines in the past (C63 to 507) it doesn't surprise me one bit. Makes no sense from MB's perspective to manufacture two engines that close when a simple software alteration supplies the same engine to multiple vehicles. Millions of dollars saved.
