2010 Calcite C300 with AMG Sports Package
I'd wait

Given the negative responses with regard to the 'floating' info screen, I'd wait in the hope that it would may become more integrated, something along the lines of the new AMG GT.

Won't happen on the C. The new E is rumored to go with the S class dash contained screens, because MB is worried that the floating screen will turn off the older buyer demographic that buys the E. But in the C, this is it, its alot cheaper and the younger buyer demographic seems to be OK with the bolted on iPad look.

really? Who is starting this rumor? You?
Because the new refreshed CLS will have the floating Nav and I am pretty sure that the E class and CLS buyers are around the same age.

I guess its entirely possible for them to remove it later, as they did in the W204 refresh, but this is the current trend. However, I don't really want to wait. Its not a big deal to me, I ended up buying the pop up nav on my C class and am still fine with it

there IS a possibility for a change if they get enough negativity about it, but this is a new run of this model obviously. a (somewhat major) interior redesign would have to happen for the screen to go back in the dash.

i guess what i'm saying is that if you're going to wait, prepare to wait for a few years. car manufacturers don't change things overnight.

i'm not going off of rumors per-se, just automotive trends in general.

personally, i don't mind the screen, although integrated would be more clean and neat. unfortunately, i'm guessing a LOT of people "won't have a problem" with the screen, so it's going to take a lot for mercedes to realize it's "wrong". they obviously thought it was a good idea that passed many checks and balances in the design department and made it all the way to production.

from cla reports, people claim that the screen makes more sense when you actually sit in the car regardless of what the photos look like. hopefully, when physically sitting in the car, it will feel more 'intentional', rather than the often used descriptor of 'afterthought'.

Im fine when its kind of recessed into the dash, like the BMW screens. The Mercedes ones are the worst but I can get over it. they literally sit on top of the dash.

Automobile magazine had that info in a sidebar about the new E having the S class style screens.

On the Audi forums, I believe I read that when the in dash screens fail - is $2K to replace it. Serviceability is one thing driving the bolt on screen look. Like it or not, its the future trend.

if everything about the car is absolutely amazing, and the ONE single thing "wrong" is the screen, i'm pretty sure i can overlook that. most cars, no matter how expensive they are, there's always something to gripe about.

i actually prefer analog gauges, btw. i think a lot of people do. the s all digital gauges are neat and all, but i like organic feeling stuff.

the car is gonna sell no matter what we think. if it doesn't sell well, hell, I'll buy one just for the discount, lol
