GS350
resale value for 2015 C400

Hello, guys

I am seriously considering trade my 2014 GS350 F sport to 2015 C400.

My local dealer offered my invoice price - 2000 incentives, which will be around 49900.

However, I am concerning the resale value of C400 compared to BMW 435 or X3.

Which one do you guys think will hold the value better??

Thanks!!

Having driven the GS350 awd, I can assure you that handling-wise the C is all over the GS. I didn't drive the F sport which is RWD. The C pretty much own the GS in every other category too. Resale value should be comparable, but the Lexus is probably a little stronger. One thing to keep in mind, the more expensive the C gets the lower percentage of retained value. Personally resale value would be the last thing on my mind between these 2 cars, take one out for a test drive and you will see what I mean. As far as the driving experience is concerned they are day and night.

2015 C300 RWD
When plugging in #s for past years on KBB, Lexus generally >>> German cars. Unlikely to change until German cars reliability and durability increases. That said, you're not buying any of them as an investment. All money losers. Which makes you the happiest?

My point exactly. Your are already paying a little more over Lexus for a better driving experience. Is 1k difference in value over 5 years going to make a difference?

Low end MB resale is awful. Learned it first hand with a C250. If you decide to get one definitely lease.

This model, if reliable, might buck that trend since its so desireable.

It's possible. But normally MB screws their non-lease customers by offering progressively cheaper lease deals in consecutive model years on the low end vehicles.

Where are you getting your data from? KBB estimates that C250 and 328i will have roughly equal amounts of depreciation over 5 yrs....

Also not sure how offering cheaper lease deals over the lifetime of a car is "screwing" someone over. Is there a mainstream car manufacturer that DOESN'T do this?

Leasing in these cars is inevitable since they are so pricey. MB has found a way to make good money with the leasing business. I think in UK most people don't buy cars at all, Most or some kind of business lease. UK readers please shed some light on this.

Personal experience. Bought a 2012 C250 for $38k + taxes (sticker around 42k). Went to sell it 14 months later and the most I could get was around $27k. Mainly because MB had decided to start leasing them for $299/month or something ridiculous making leasing a new one more attractive than buying an old one. So including taxes&fees it wound up costing me around $1200/month to "own" that C250 for 14 months.

I have to buy cars for the business but for the average Joe, I would never suggest buying a low end MB. Always lease.
