Update for Garmin navigation software and maps

Update for Garmin navigation software and maps
For the initial purchase price, does it come with any free update?
If not, how much do we pay for each update?
(I am getting conflicting information from dealer)
Thanks

I have the Garmin Map Pilot and I don't recall if the updates are free. I just logged in last week to check for any map updates and it said there were no new updates and there was no mention of any charges. I've had the Garmin since November.
FYI - I've had mixed results with the maps on the Garmin; not very thorough.
Let us know what you find out about the update charges.

Mine has 2014 on the package. I was able to update my maps in early 2015 and after that update it stated I have the 2015 version of the maps. I think they called it version 4.

Do you already have the new car? If not, take a good test drive with a C class that has the Garmin Map Pilot and try a couple of destinations that you know well. See how the Garmin does. As I've said, I've had some poor mapping results.

No. I used the MB download manager software on my windows pc. I believe it's available at the MB owner's online site. http://apps.mercedes-benz.com/apps/b...min_map_pilot#. Maybe that link will work.

Could anyone point to the website that can download in North America? The site provided appear to work only in Europe (http://shop.mercedes-benz.com/garmin-map-pilot/).
Thanks
Thanks

IMHO - Garmin Map Pilot and the platform around it are about five years behind other technologies out there in GPS. I've resorted to using Google Maps on my iPhone more than the Garmin.
The Download Manager is not that great either. It sort of gets the job done, but that also could use some improvement.

One thing that bothers me a lot, is after paying in Sweden, about $750 for just a software. I was hoping for something nicer graphics vise.
The layout really looks like it's been made for a portable 4" aftermarket navi. Many things while seeing the maps are very big, like the top and bottom row with info text. For me, way to big and could have been much neater.
Then we have the "arrow" or the car, or whatever icon you choose to represent your position and vehicle, that is also way to big. Just looks silly! And then the map it self, it's not that high resolution depending on the range of zoom you have. It sometimes looks blurry. And could have been so much better cause this 7" screen in our cars is much sharper then this.
As I said, many things feels like they just took the maps, layout and graphics from there portable navigation. And didnt bother considering we have a larger screen, and higher resolution. That's at least how I feel, and considering I paid 750$ just for a software, they could have put more into it.
A good 300$ Garmin navigation with a touch-screen, Bluetooth etc feels like a bargain

IstvanC - my sentiments exactly! I posted on another thread that the Garmin Map Pilot seems about five years behind in technology. I wished I would have test driven a car with it first - I wouldn't have spend the money...oh well.
Do you have any issues with the routing and maps? I'm in Southern California and it's taken me on some very strange routes. I get more efficiency with my iPhone and Google Maps.

The options are Garmin or Command. Is there any other option? I tried to put Primo on the SD card (with the proper file structure and name) but it won't start (Mercedes complains the data is corrupted).

I finally installed the Garmin Map Pilot. The version shown is 2014(V2.4).
Run MB Download Manager and it showed the same version. Software update available: 2015(V4). Went ahead with it. about 400 MB download.
Put it back in the car. Did notice any difference. Check the version in the car again and it's still 2014(V2.4).
Something went wrong during the update?

IstvanC- I am used to iGO or Primo in the last maybe 10 years or so. This Garmin sets me back 10 years. It's just poorly designed software with poor routing algorithm.
I don't know if COMMAND is any better. But it's too late for me any way.
With the central console standing out, it's awkward to mount another device nearby (being a phone or not).
This is quite sad.

cheerful - I agree with your comments.
I hope MB looks at this as a v1 offering and they find a way to upgrade the maps/system soon.
Or at least I hope they read these forums to understand this is a real concern for most that purchased it.
My dealership gave me a free full detail as compensation for my troubles; not perfect, but it helps.

Taking away the 3.5mm audio jack is deliberate. This is to force you to buy either Garmin ($600 for a Garmin is really expensive!) or COMMAND. I have not tried COMMAND. Maybe Garmin is picked so that it's bad enough to force buyer to COMMAND.
I doubt MB will do anything good in this space. I found third-party options but it would void the warranty. So can't do that now. 5 years is a long time ...
