Opening Windows with remote

Hi all, every car I've had for the last 10 years or so has had the ability to open or close the windows by long pressing open or lock on the remote. How do i do this on the W205?

Same way. On my car, I have to be very close to the car to get it to work though.

On my W204 you have to press/hold key button then aim the tip of your key at the driver's door handle. You also can't do it beyond beyond 3-5ft. I never understood the purpose of it at such close range. If I just forgot to close my windows it doesn't take that much longer to just go inside the car and do it.

Be aware that the sun shade need to be fully open first before the window would open. With the close range and 2 steps open process, making this feature useless.

I agree it's pretty much useless because of having to be so close to the car. The other day my buddy and I were standing and talking about 30 ft from our cars and he hit his button (Toyota) and all the windows rolled down. All mine did was flash the lights.

I find it useful because I use it more for closing windows I forgot about when exiting thus I am close enough anyway. Once the door opens on exit you have to go to the bother of restarting the car to get switch control, so getting back in is an inconvenience.

I always found this super asinine. You basically have to be in arms length of the door.

My 911 uses the standard radio remote (instead of ir) and its super useful.

On my W203 2007 C280, it used infrared. You did have to point it at the handle of the driver's door. It never worked very well. At 6 or 9 months, it didn't work at all. The module was replaced on warranty. It didn't work very well after that either. It got worse and worse, and it was inoperable for the last couple years I owned the car.

The unit in my new C300 uses radio. I can use it in my pocket, and it works well. It also turns on the seat ventilation in the driver's seat (not the passenger's seat). I haven't tested the maximum distance; I just use it as I approach the car, from a couple steps away. Even though I don't have a sunroof (my old W203 didn't have one either), I still find the feature useful in hot weather. I never drive with the windows down, so closing them from a distance is not an issue.

I know that it makes no sense not being able to open the windows unless you are basically already in the car but look at it this way, if it was able to do it farther away you could have worse problems. A few years ago on an Infiniti forum i read about a guy who was sitting in the dentist office i believe and had his key in his pocket, when he came out to leave all his windows were open and sunroof open. Probably not normally a big deal execpt it was pour rain and caused a lot of damage to his car. If you ask me i would rather deal with not being able to open my windows from a mile away as opposed to having this happen. Just food for thought.
