S205 (wagon) boot/trunk floor cover.

So whenever I open the floor cover in the boot/trunk it comes off one of the hinges. Having looked tonight it seems the right side hinge, which is welded in place, is too far right and the boot floor plastic clamp part of the hinge doesn't sit inside it or does by 2mm or so. It's in tomorrow for review but I'd like to know if anyone else with an s205 can check theirs?

Left side, seems fine;

Right side, seems too far out and this allows the floor cover to slip off its hinge every time its lifted meaning its a PITA to have to refit it, taking everything out to get access.

I've only lifted the boot lid twice, but both times it's come loose like you describe. Will try and get a photo taken of the right hand side a bit later

I keep my umbrella and a few other things under there you see so I use it every few weeks or so, when it pops out I have to take everything out of the boot so I can wiggle it back into position and put everything back. Very annoying. I was tempted to bend the bracket in a bit but that would then mean the pivot you can see on the right would be pointing down a bit and might make things worse. In the dealers for this and the gearbox tomorrow so I'll be interested to see how they approach it.

Sloppy build, there's bits like this all over, I've never seen anything so poorly tested before release to market.

EQC 4matic AMG line Premium Plus replacing S213 220d 4matic with airmatic
Cannot check my car right now but have experienced the issue of the boot floor coming away rather than just lifting up as you describe. The hinges on the raising floor section are an open c shape and will readily slip off the pins shown in the photo..not a genius design but better than the glk where there were no hinges at all and the lid was kept upright with a hook onto the top of the boot opening......very agricultural after the e class with its self supporting boot floor!

I suspect it is a design fault and not a construction fault sadly...or a bean counter decision over a quality engineering solution even more sadly. I have bought the mercedes bootfloor liner which fits very well but stops easy access to the considerable storage underneath. Before fitting the bootliner i got adept at opening it carefully......agree it is cheap and not worthy of a car costing such a premium price.

We got hit by quite a hail and thunderstorm yesterday - but had a look this morning. Mine seem evenly space out.

It could indeed seem like you right side hinge is too far out. Here are some (poor) pictures from my boot:

Car returned with new boot floor lid.

No different. Hinges do not attach to rods on chassis.

They checked other estates and they are the same.

Not happy. They will need to redesign the boot lid plastic hinges.

I won't accept this, it's clearly wrong.
