Garmin Map Pilot: can I disable the safe mode?

The safe mode prevented the passenger from using it. This is extremely frustrating when the voice command does not work well for the POI entry.

Any way to disable it?

Thanks

IIRC when safemode came up on mine I simply nudged the controller knob upwards (towards the front of the car) and it came right out of safemode.

When do you do that?

The only thing I see is that when I try to enter an address. It's greyed out.

So I drove around using my nav quite a bit yesterday and it never entered safe mode and I did go into the options to add a new location to my route and it never stopped me. Now I used a location from my "recently found" tab and did not enter a new one from the address tab so maybe that's the difference. I will try again today.

on topic/off topic, but has anyone else noticed that the garmin system is SLOOOOOOOW to calculate a route and update when you deviate from it? Whatever processor they use for the media/vehicle control system is general is slow as molasses.

I think the safe mode only prevent you from entering the letters. Choosing from history or etc is ok.

I tested this last weekend it only allowed me to choose home, favorites or recently found. The address icon was grayed out, as you stated. It always allowed me to search for POIs though. I could manually enter the names in the POI window. It is a little surprising that you can't enter addresses yet you can do everything else manually. Doesn't make a lot of sense.
