Portable DVD players go for $50 to $100. Wouldn't that be easier for the kids and less distracting for the driver?

I had the exact same thought.

That's what we do.
We inquired about it at the dealer and he said it's possible, but don't do it. Over here, you can get in HUGE trouble.

Less distracting up until they want you to switch out the DVD's... I have no desire to watch Frozen for the zillionth time, but it certainly keeps the kids from being at each other while sitting in the backseat. Also, anyone who is stupid enough to actually watch a DVD while they're driving will self-Darwin soon enough. But I hope they don't take anyone else with them in the process. Having said that, I don't like the idea of anyone else making the decision for me "what is correct" vs. not. As if fiddling through 100+ channels of Sirius or fiddling through 5000 songs through the iPod connection was safe - but they certainly allow you to do it.

I know dvdinmotion.com sells the ability to do this for $200 or something like that. But this is supposedly as simple as the dealer "flicking" a software switch. I don't want to go with the dvdinmotion.com since I don't know what else they are playing around with when they load their software. So does anyone have any updates if this switch is accessible to us through the engineering menu?

I haven't tried it myself. But it seems you can toggle it back and forth from original to dvdinmotion. It seems that a lot of people are doing this. I can't speak to what it does/doesn't do for warranty.
