2016 C300, parking brake is on when I start the car
Hi,
I just picked up my new 2016 c300 and I'm still learning the car.
But when I start the engine, my parking brake sign is always on so I have to manually disable it even though I never put the brake on before.
Is there a reason for this or how to fix it?
Thank you.

My early 2015 does not have auto brake, but in a 2016 (and later 15.s) when you stop and put the car in Park the e-brake will engage.
As mentioned you just have to select D or R and press the accelerator to auto disengage the e brake.

My later build 2015 C300 Sport 4Matic has it. I took delivery of my new vehicle June 24th, 2015 (ordered end of March 2015).

About an hour, do not think this would be covered under warranty, but since it is programming only, show up at the dealer with a nice cake or similar and they might do it for free

The loaner I have from 4/15 has it enabled. It also auto parks when the key turns off.
I've come to like it as the car doesn't do that slight roll if I forget to put the parking brake on.
What's really bad is on my W204 it doesn't even warn you the parking brake is on while in reverse.

There are probably some testing costs associated with providing updates and the manufacturer probably don't want to deviate from what the manual has written in stone. But people now expect their software to upgrade and evolve over time. With car ownership being a 5 to 10 year commitment a big fear now is having outdated tech.

So just a question, is there any way to disengage the ebrake without applying throttle?
Say your parking on a hill, you need to reverse out, but very slowly because there is a car behind you. If you have to first disengage the ebrake by applying throttle the car will accelerate very quickly backwards down the slope - not ideal. So ideally you need to disengage the ebreke/handbrake slowly and have your foot ready at the brake peddle. So what to do in this situation.

Resurrecting an old thread... I noticed that my 6/16 build behaves a little differently: Parking brake is disabled when you shift to D or R, while your foot is still on the brake, ie without having to step on the accelerator, and once you lift your foot off the brake, the car starts rolling. Conversely, on a 1/16 loaner that I drove for a day, the parking brake remains on until you step on the accelerator.
Not sure if they changed the behavior in later builds, and if they did, the user manuals aren't updated.
Not that I'm complaining I think I actually prefer the way my car behaves right now, but that's just my own preference.
