Carplay Android alternatives
Hello all,
I'm a new member and I would like to ask you about the entertainment system. It is almost the only thing I don't like about my car! I took a stock one, so it hasn't got the command online. It only has the garmin.
I've been waiting for carplay even before I bought the car, but I think I'm quote bored of waiting. For those who are in my same situation, have you found any solution?
I've seen Several options, with mirrorlink, but I would like a system as individual as possible. I have thought about android systems in which you can even install applications such as Waze or Google maps.
What do you think about those systems? I found one: Q-roi. Any experiences?http://q-roi.com
Any ideas would be awesome. I think I have decided to replace my system with something similar.
Thank you very much!

MBWorld Fanatic!
There's a member here who did a retrofit of an Asian built system that got him the large screen plus a customizable OS but from his thread it didn't exactly turn out to be plug and play. Lots of bugs he had to chase down, and I'm not sure he ever got it exactly as he wanted it.
Any aftermarket unit is going to step in between the factory HU and the screen, and either pass thru the OEM OS or substitute its own, but you'll never have both on screen at the same time.

Hello, Thank you for your answer. I know It wouldn't be plug and play, and wont be easy to install but if I get what I want...
Once I have turned on my car, I don't use the original OS for more than changing the music, so I don't mind that the central screen isn't perfectly included in the original OS (I suppose you change between android and original SO with one button) if I can use a proper navigation system with updates and Android apps.
Thank you again. Anyone have other opinions about it?

What I got wasn't really Android. It's just an aftermarket counterpart of Multimedia. And I only got problems because my car's software was updated (I believe).

This would be the answer to your prayer :-) Unfortunately, last time I talked to them, it's still under development and has not been released yet.

That would be pretty awesome, although it haven't been released yet
I wrote an email to qroi and they didn't answered, so I suppose it isn't a very reliable place to buy...
Thanks again!

Hello guys, it's me again.
What do u you think about this one?
http://www.kaptrader.com/gps_roik.html
It needs:
GPS roik.
Touch panel.
Video interface.
Any opinions on that?
Thank you very much.

I've looked for android capability years ago, long before w205. But after trying all kinds of gizmo, I've come to realize that for car, we only need a few major features: video, navigation, and music (and maybe phone mirror). Anything other than that is just too cumbersome and impractical. We don't surf the web or do Facebook in the car. Video watching is even more less frequent. So, even if you manage to get an Android box with full touch screen features and the works, it'll be just a cool factor, something to show off to your friends or make you feel good. The majority of the time you'll be driving. Therefore, I'm happy with the upgrade that I did.
