Steering Wheel shake on bad road surfaces.
Hey guys I notice my steering shake/vibrate whenever I go to a bumpy road.
Is this normal? In a smooth road I don't notice any vibration/shake. When its shaking though its not too bad but I can sort of see steering wheel moving.

What wheel size are you on? 19" will transmit more road feel than 18". Also make sure the fronts aren't over inflated. Do you stay in Comfort steering mode or Sport? Comfort has less feedback.

I'm actually on stock 17 with oem runflats. Steering wheel is comfort. The vibration isn't too bad but I just don't like it moving.

I'd check it.. there is plenty they didn't bother to bolt down properly..
on the bright side they often leave spare fasteners in the car for you to use.. if you can find them.. the rattles will help with that..
Not joking aside, when I was rebuilding my interior I did tighten the IP module side bolts to the A Pillar inner face as they hade eased (vehicle would have been perhaps 12months since assembly date at the time).
if you pull the dash side plastic mouldings off you will see the fixing bolts...
mine wound in 1/4 to 1/2 a turn to re snug...
Still its better than the entire centre console unit which didn't have any of its fixing screws installed just relying on the plastic clips.. Onya germans..

It's sort of connected to the front wheels so it follows that if they get jostled around it will be transmitted thru the rack to the steering wheel. Have none of your previous cars done this?

But I wasn't too OCD about it back then.
My previous car was a BMW 335i convertible with
M Sport suspension. I expected the ride to be horrible and it was lol.
My C is very comfortable... also I don't notice any vibration anywhere else its just the steering wheel shakes a tiny bit when I go to slightly uneven road pavement or bad roads in general.
So its normal for sterring wheel to shake a little when I go throught slight bumpy roads or bad roads?
Thanks

I have much bigger problems. When I press the Start button I hear mechanical sounds coming from the car. It sounds like it's coming from the front of the car, possibly under the big main metal panel. If I press the button again the noise stops (???!!!). Any ideas?

I would demand an immediate buy back! Possible payments for mental anguish.

I have filed a formal complaint via a sternly worded letter to Mercedes corporate. Noise of this type is unacceptable in a fine German luxury sedan. I've demanded a new Maybach, $100,000 in cash and a sacrificial virgin.
