Took my car in for service b... $666.000... I told them i had a gurgling noise coming from under the hood...they say its the supercharger (112-090-00-80-88) $3863.80. . .

I have 41,000 miles on my 2002 C32.

happy i got the extended warranty ..

I hope you read the fine print on your extended warranty because most dont cover the SUPERCHARGER.

Thats scary! So without the extended warranty it would be $3863.80. and no doubt an astronomical labor cost on top of that! Yikes!

I would NOT fork out that kind of money for a "gurgling" sound unless it was diagnosed as a mechanical problem. When did it gurgle and how loud? My car makes a rhythmic burble at idle, but it's completely acceptable to me. After all, it's a motor with a supercharger on it!

I wonder if the aftermarket will come up with an overhaul kit for our supercharger setup.

Is there not a "clutch" within the supercharger unit that sometimes requires maintenance or lubricaton sometimes that could be causing this?

MY SC was also replaced under warranty.. MB Starmark warranty definitely covers the SC.. In fact everything I have ever taken my car to the dealer for has been covered under the Starmark warranty.

yeah you may be right... today i took the car for an alignment at a tire shop. When they pulled it out of the garage it was smoking from under the hood. We popped the hood and saw that the engine cover was shattered... it looked like something shot through it.. I called roadside and had them tow it back to the dealer. The dealer hasnt called me about it yet, so i dont know what exactly went wrong.. .

holy ****.. i just noticed the price you paid for your b service.. I have two dealers I use in town.. one dealer charges about $300 out the door with loaner and the other is 475.. but $666 that is just wrong!

well they quoted me $550 and charged $666 in Fairfield, Ct. . the other choice is to bring it to Greenwich, CT. They prob charge $750... I cant really say anything can I?

yeah the clutch to the supercharger went. Good thing the service advisor told me it was safe to drive.. geez i offered to leave it while the parts were on order, but he insisited it was fine.

off topic...is it possible to get away getting a news/c by just rebuilding it?

what are the symptoms of s/c clutch about to blow?

What about a whining noise when the car is ideling. and also when taking off. Or is that the s/c just acting normal?

Hey Sforza,

They charge $2900 for the SC here in NY I just had mine replaced recently.
Just make sure you replace the pullys and belt and make sure warranty covers that as well and the labor. I did not take my MB to the stealership cuz they'll just rip you off. My mechanic did it in 5 hours and he did an excellent job and the great thing is he specializes in MB and BMW. Remeber the $3800 is only if you give them the core otherwise it would be more like $5000 and remember you're getting a refurbished SC. Good luck !

Yea that $600 sounds right for B service, that's what we pay here in Westchester however I just take it to my mechanic and perform A service only for like $90
