i hate to crosspost but nobody has answered my audio question :) helpful to all!!

i recently purchased a dvd head for my c32. after taking the c32 stereo assembly out- i noticed that it is fiber optic and therefore has a digital output to the bose amp. i don't want to go thru wiring everything to the amp but was wondering about the following:

i have a digital (fiber) out on the back of my new headunit. if i can power my stereo and stock bose amp externally and connect the oem digital wire to the digital out on the back of my aftermarket headunit. will this work with the stock bose amp? i get the feeling nobody has done this before and i may have to just try it myself.

I don't think so. The factory digital system works as a loop, so this sounds like it would break the loop.

doh..that sucks. i was under the impression that the second part of the loop only affected the steering controls (which i never use anyway).

The steering wheel controls are not in the fiber optic loop. They communicate over the CAN bus.

You're going to have to bypass the fiber optic network. If you just want to get it working, you're going to have to run speaker cable from your head unit to your speaker connections, which are on the factory amp. That is enough to get your speakers working. You will not be able to save the subwoofer.

If you want to do it right, completely replace the factory amp. You can keep the factory speakers if the amp can handle 2ohm speakers. You'll need a new subwoofer, and an amp for that as well.
