Racing at Carlsbad Raceway on 10-12-02

Three C32s will be racing at Carlsbad Raceway this afternoon (1:00pm) with some M3s, Corvette, Z28 and some others. If you guys live nearby, just come and join the fun. If you are going to be racing, bring a helmet.

No traction=13.62 et @104
My rear tires are 90% gone, my best run was only 13.62 at 104.
It was a very Disappointing day.
One M3 6sp ran 13.2 with hamann intake and no back seats.
I just wish my best could be equal to his 13.2

Vadim, I need the pully+ic upgrade.

M3 belongs to Michael. We just finished his car on Friday. What was his MPH?

BTW, M3 had over 350 lbs. removed from it and puts 290HP at the wheels.

OK, guys do not feel bad, Carlsbad is notoriuosly known as a slow track. Back in my 5.0 days, a lot of East Coast 5.0L guys used to moan and groan that they were down by 3-4 tenths and 3-4 mph down from their best East Coast times. You need a DOT slick to get a good launch.

Did you use Speedshift?

What were your 0-60 ft. times. Do you have any other data? Better yet can you scan your time tickets and post them? Thanks.

Probably why these aren't great times. Plus CA gas I assume.

Shouldnt the M3 run high 12's with the weight removed and the 290RWHP?

R/T wont affect ur ET time. 1/4 mile is all about your 60ft times. So i would think U need to work on ur 60ft time because every .1 less in ur 60ft time will equals -.15-.2 in the 1/4mile.

Under indeal conditions, yes. At the same time the C32 should be running low 13's. I would be willing to guess that the C32 guys were having slightly more trouble hooking up.

I agree with u on the hooking up problem since the 60ft wasnt soo great, but the trapspeed isnt good for low 13's to be honest with u. I used to run 13.7 at 103 with my 99 Cobra with a very good 60ft(under 2sec) I dont recall the exact number, but i think it was around 1.92 or 1.98. See my point.

You are right, but fortunately a lot of C32s seem to be doing better. Like Vadim said, the trap speed should be a few mph higher. Oh well, he'll live to fight another day and the experiences of others should give him hope.

You are not going to believe this. Peter and I were both running 100 octane race fuel. But for some reason My trap speed time is constistantly 1 mile higher than his. Maybe his car is still under 2k miles.
When I was running in the 1/8 mile in Irwendale race track my 60' ft time was 1.9 and 1/8 mile is 8.59. Today my best 1/8 mile time was only 8.871. That means if I can hook up I can probaly lower my time to 13.3 or13.2 compares to todays 13.63
Today my friend's auto S4 ran 13.4 today and his 1/8 mile time was only 8.673

I'll be getting some new tires next week. Any recommandations?
Toyo, Yoko or S03?

lol - m3 with 350pounds removed & intake/290rwhp = 13.2, i ran that stock with paper plates. c32 guys running mid 13's....your 60ft=2.1, my 13.2's-13.3's had 2.0 60fts and trap of 106.9, so yeah traction is what it's all about

shifting technique of holding the lever to the left the whole time???? i NEVER did that, just tapped it into 1 then let it shift up byitself.

When I ran my C32 at Carlsbad last year it had about 2k miles on it and I was running consistent 13.5's at 104.5mph(3 runs). I had wheel spin for 50 to 100ft and 60ft times where 2.136 to 2.143 seconds.

One run I just mashed the gas with no brake torqing and it ran 13.77 @ 105.05, 60ft time of 2.386.

My car has been dyno'd at 294rwhp so I tend to believe what Vadim says that Carlsbad is a little low on numbers and traction. Not to mention that long dusty drive through the dirt to get to the track trashes the engine bay and interior.

Peter, Charlie - guys, do not feel bad. First time is always disappointing. And besides Carlsbad is not the best of tracks. You need a DOT slick to get good traction due to all rubber build up at the starting line. It has always been the case with this place, back as far as 1988 and before. They rarely clean it.

As far as tires, I have Toyos on mine now and hook up good. I have not done any drags with them yet, but in the corners they stick good. If you want to do drags on a regular basis I would recommend getting two cheap, but light 17x8.5'' and using either BFG or Nitto DOT drag tires. That should put you below 2 sec. in 60 ft. time.

ro0zy: what was the temperature outside when you ran your C32?

Linh: Chill out dude! I do not remember you running drags or posting any good numbers. ET talks - BS walks.

Vadim: I think it was around 70 degress. Houston Raceway Park is also a real good track, nice elevation.

linh: traction is a valid excuse, a diablo could spin tires and get a bad time, you think it's because the car just plain sucks so there shouldn't be any excuses? NO, because it's the "excuse of traction".

That was Michael that drove the Silver M3. He said EvoSport did all the upgrades on his car.
His stock wheels were 19".
If i remember correctly, he ran 107mph.

I would think the M3 has the adv. in the 1/4mile only. After that i would think that the C32 shines and will come back to play catch up with the M3. The auto on the C32 isnt helping i guess right? Would u guys do better if the car were 6spd manual?

huh? m3 advantage only in the 1/4....it has advantage on the road course. C32's stock on ssr gt3's have run 13.0 like your z28, i have no idea about benz manuals. What did you run stock in your Z28?

U didnt understand what i mean by only in the 1/4mile. I meant on a straight line the C32 will start catching up after 100 or 110 if it didnt get a good launch in the 1/4mile. Of course the M3 is a better handler hands down. I didnt understand what u mean by ssr gt3's??

When i got my car i did the dyno stock at only 400miles and I did put the catback and intake after that. It never had the chance to stay stock. I never ran it stock, but i can tell u that the catback and intake gave me 33RWHP and 24RWTQ. So i would say stock my car would be mid 13's at 105-106mph car.

LSs1power: Actually, auto in C32 is one of the best. With crisp up and downshifts. Being a 5-speed it is always in the right rpm range. I do not think it is a problem.
