Carbon Fiber Hood?
Does anyone know a good source for a high quality carbon fiber hood for a C55? I don't even mind if it's custom made with some kind of intake vent to help the engine breathe better.
I know Ahmad (Blackbenzz) has one but who else? Are the CLK55 hoods identical to the C55?

Awsome! Thanks bro! I can't check cuz my ride's still at Vadim's shop.
Yeah it looks like Vis is popping up everywhere on the Net and the best price I found was $863 + insurance and shipping but no tax. Not sure how it would look on a silver car and I'm not sure I want/can paint it to match the body.

The VIS is suppose to be the best bet for us but honestly $900+ is really killing it...just another company exploiding the Mercedes Benz owners' pockets...its not perfect by any means and the import crowd pays less then half...what gives?

i've seen alot of vis racing hoods.... and fitment is less than perfect, quality is lacking too. but they do have a wide selection and mass produce them so you get what you get from a large company....

I almost purchased one and that is exactly what kept me from going through with it. However, if you can do them for a reasonable price with a better fit and finish, sign me up! I know you have your hands full right now with the rear diffusers, which I'm anxiously waiting for.

My experience, through my friends spending the $$$, is that CF hoods are never OEM fit / finish and require a ton of expert body prep to look even remotely good / near OEM. They're great for race cars but typically less than ideal for anyone who wants an OEM look to their car. If you get one, be prepared to spend as much having it fitted as you did on the hood itself. It can get even uglier with some of the less reputable shops out there. Of course, the finished product is unique and somewhat trick but you could probably gain more of a performance boost by simply spending the money on lightweight wheels or lightweight rotors.

I just talked to a custom body shop today and they are going to make some custom vent and possibly a custom hood window so you can see the blower. As far as I know they do killer work on high end cars.

ZR1 style, eh? I think a vented hood would look great on your car - not to mention the practical heat extraction benefits; would pass on the "window" however (IMHO).

I'd be interested in a CF hood if it let some more iar in and the heat out (evo style vents around the headers/intake mani maybe?)-I know its a V8/V6-but the under hood temps on these things is bad bad.

VIS hoods are hit or miss. my hood required perfectly little work to make fit, and overall quality is very good. the hood on a non-c55 203 is pretty damn heavy, it took 2 guys to lift it, while my girlfriend could carry the VIS hood herself.
