C55 stalls when cold
Hey everyone! I've been having a problem for about 2 weeks where my 05 C55 stalls when I put it into reverse or drive when cold. (there is no check engine light)
If I start it and let it warm up, it's ok. I've done some searches but have been unable to read up on anyone else having this issue with a C55. I recently replaced the MAF sensor last summer and I have about 95,000 miles on her now. I'm thinking I should change out a sensor but I'm not sure which sensor is bad. I'm hoping it's a temp sensor or something. If it's a bad tranny I'll be sad :-(
Anyway, once the car is warmed up it runs great. The only problem I have is I am replacing rear tires a lot.
I'm in Mesa AZ on vacation for a few days and I'd like to fix this before heading to l.a.
thanks for any help,
Mike Kuriger

Vacuum leak after the MAF possibly? Notorious for causing these symptoms on Subarus when it is cold out. They have like 800 miles of boost lines and places to spring a leak.
Have your spark plugs and fuel injectors been replaced anytime during the life of the car?

i was hoping for something simple like a temp sensor somewhere. on my old car, if the temp sensor went bad the computer wouldn't choke the engine when cold. i looked for vacuum leaks and was unable to find any. car runs like a raped ape when it's warm though.
some maintenance I plan on doing are plugs/wires, and send the injectors to rc engineering for balancing/cleaning. I also want to get the tranny fluid changed and possibly the bands for 2nd gear since those are usually the 1st to wear out.

check the intake butterfly (throttle body) after the MAF sensor. Could be gunked up, restricting air and causing a too rich condition when cold.

If there was enough of a disintegrating air filter that it took out the MAF, some went on through to the throttle body. I'd be checking for crap in the throttle body.

so am i supposed to change the cam position sensor or crank position sensor? after doing a search, I have found many references to the crank sensor but not the cam sensor. I don't want to change the wrong one! maybe I need to change both just to be safe?

A friend and I had the same problem a few days ago.
We both drive a C55. His MAF was renewed in February this year, but gave up again.
Mine still had the first MAF. We both got a new one today and the cars rides much smoother.
Before it felt like the gears would slip during acceleration. My car felt better when it was warm, his didn´t.
The reason was that his MAF was striking much more (Check Engine Light), whereas mine was still working to some extent ( no CEL).
Both got covered by the waranty.
Hope that helps!

I finally got a check engine light, and it indicated a MAF issue. I cleaned the MAF and it's better but still stumbles a bit once in a while when cold. I suspect the maf needs replacing and since it was replaced 6 months ago, it is still covered under warranty. If that fails to fix the problem, I'll get a CPS and change that.
thanks!

Update: Car still doesnt run how its supposed to run. It´s a little better than it used to be. Guess it was the excitement with the new MAF that made me think its fixed.
CPS ist usually an issue when the car wont start or starves during driving. Do you guys think it could still solve the problem ?
It still feels like the gears a re slipping once in a while. However only if the car is cold!
Help me, please

Also experiencing the same problem. During december for a few days and a few days late April when I would start the car there would be a rough idle and after driving for maybe about 2 minutes the engine would turn off; fduring my entire 2 hour commute to LA it would turn off sporadically. However, after being parked in a garage and away from cold/rain car would operate normally.
