Hi all. A few months ago I bought a 2002 c class sedan with, as it turned out, two doors with this problem! I cannot thank enough the brave souls...loudandheard and others who went ahead with the repair and documented the many steps. I bought a spring kit and attacked a rear door first, where no problems were encountered. The front door was not so easy! The assembly did not seem to fit out through the hole.at all, it was about half inch too "high". Emboldened by another poster, I enlarged the hole at this spot with a hand nibbler in a smooth curve and carefully bent the new edge in with water pump pliers so as not to create a weak spot in the metal lining. The lock assembly now came out with no trouble. This modification took only about 10 minutes.
