Post Mercedes Error codes

OK I've been on this forum for a while IMO and saved allot of money due to other peoples findings and sharing their information so thanks to everybody. i was going through the threads and saw allot of new treads started because somebody needed help finding out what certain codes mean. and there was my turn when i was looking for codes definition and it took me a while to find them, when I found them i figured i would share with everybody and it would be nice for everybody to just have it on hand. the codes are not C32 nor C55 specific but they are for Mercedes Benz 1996 and Newer. I hope you enjoy.

Good stuff! I would also add P0128 - "Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)". This is fairly common on modded 32s running a different T-stat, bigger HE, intercooler, more watered down coolant mix, etc. OR could be the result of a t-stat stuck wide open...

I can vouch it's not C32 specific. My W202 230 has code P0446 and that's exactly what the scanner I used said.

Sounds like a security issue. You will need to reset the computer after changing the battery, I would guess.

I've had a missfiring before it was spark related..double check gap on all plugs especially feeding cylinder 6 don't trust pre-gapped...check wires to maybe connection

Copy to tech section?

Many apply to all models that throw codes, I surmise.

P0128 Coolant Thermostat Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature

Help needed here! My 2002 C230 Kompresor recently has a engine light on, the code reader show "P0128 Coolant Thermostat Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature". While I attempt to purchase the Coolant Temp Sensor from rockauto.com, the site show two kinds of sensor. My mechanic friend said one of the sensor communicate to the temp gauge display, the other one communicate to the Engine Control Unit. He said since my temp gauge display showed normal temp reading, I should change out the one that control the ECU. But when I called to the authorized MB dealer and look for the part, all of them mentioned that there is only ONE temp sensor for the car.

My question are:
Are there more than one Coolant Temp. Sensor (Coolant Temp Sending Unit)?
If so where can I buy the CTS that control the ECU? Any part # I can reference to?

Thanks for any experts' help!

Hi Franco, I got it resolved by replacing the thermostat housing. The code was gone but right away, it throw another infamous code P0420. To make the story short, the faulty thermostat cause the engine run cold for long period of time before it reaches optimal operating temp. and resulting in destroying the catalytic converter. It's all good now. Thanks for helping up a newbie.
