I am a bonehead! OK to insult me this time.

I can't believe I did this.

Took the car for another dyno test to be followed by a compression and leak down and made a really stupid mistake.

I brought along a 5Gal drum of VP MS109 gasoline and had the operator start pouring it into my gas tank. He sees that the gas is cloudy and asks me how old is this gas. I explain that it has been sitting in my garage for at least a year or two. He continues pouring and then sees red color in the liquid. He immediately stops pouring and tells me that its rust. I think by this time, he's poured in 1-2 gallons into the tank already.

He starts up the engine and begins to make the first dyno run and gets up to 325+rwhp with a nice AFR of 11-1 and then suddenly the engine starts stumbling, the AFR spikes the engine begins to cut out. It finally just shuts off. He restarts it and listens closely to the engine while it stutters, putts and chokes in limp mode. He shuts down the car.

We both check the label on the drum and he looks up the internet gas brand and formula. The gas brand and formula comes up as unleaded and fine to run in my car. He then asks me if I ever added anything to the drum.

Then all of a sudden it dawned on me! I had already used up all of the MS109two years ago and used the drum to hold methanol and water 50/50 mix for my CoolingMist system back then.

End result: I now have to pay $900 to drain the tank, flush ALL the fuel lines AND ultrasonically clean all the injectors. So basically, I made a $900 mistake but several experts told me the engine suffered no damage. I'm still paying another $300 for compression and leak down test and $125 for the aborted dynorun. So this mistake ended costing me a total of $1,325.

Maybe that's why dyno shops should never trust any race gas a customer brings in. It just might be water mixed with methanol.

I am truly a bonehead and deserve a few insults.

I thought for sure you were going to say it was two cycle mix. I'm always worried that I'm going to do that by mistake.

OOOPs! Dyno guy didn't know either cuz I told him it was at least 1yr old and he kept pouring but at least watched the color carefully. I guess better late than never. If the entire 4 gallons went in before dyno was run then engine damage may occur.

Only thing I put crappy old gas in is my lawn mower... Seems to run great lol. Race fuel will go bad right before your eyes. Leaving it trackside in a sealed plastic fuel jug, will kill the fuel fast, Letting it sit in open air, sunlight, a long time, will all make fuels go bad.

if you buy race fuel, you have to use it right away.

Now why didn't I think of that. Imagine if I replaced the contents of prescription drugs with some other drug without re-labeling. Come to think if it I think I've done that before too. Glad I'm still alive. I think alzhiemer's is settling in a little early for me.

I just got a great tip from a source I will reveal later. No need to drain the tank. Just pump the fuel out into a bucket by running the fuel pump. Then put in an additive from Autozone that takes out the trace amounts of water still in the injectors or lines. Then refill tank with 93Oct to dilute the trace amounts of water still left. That tip just saved me at least 6hrs of labor.

I remember doing that to loung14's old C32 last July before HIN seeing as he had a full tank of gas and HIN said no more than 1/4 tank in the car when the car enters the show... That was an interesting event. Just make sure you pull the hose off the correct side so that it properly enters your bucket of choice.

overall, gald to hear no engine damage was done. everyone as hiccups, just gotta work through em keep on going.
