HG Motorsports 2006 C55 RACE CAR BUILD**
Hello All! This Car has been a build in progress for a long while, and has not posted anywhere. But now that we are nearing completion, I figured that it is time to post up some photos and info of the car. Looking forward to what you all have to say!
The HG Motorsports C55 started off as an innocent sedan which was driven to mostly run errands, and ocassionaly have the gas stepped on to make the hair on your neck rise. But it got into the hands of HGM. Once they received it, there was only one idea in mind with the car. To build the first purpose built road course Mercedes-Benz, and dominate.
The first thing to go was the entire interior. Everything except the dashboard and components were removed. HGM even went the the distance and removed the roof which included the sunroof and installed one off another C-Class model to help lower the center of gravity. Second modification to the car was a complete roll cage. The car was sent off to Technosquare in La. And with their amazing skills, installed a flawlessly clean cage.
After the car was returned, the motor and transmission were removed and sent to Renntech in Florida. Renntech then tore apart the motor and rebuilt with stronger internals, higher compression, and much more. The transmission was also rebuilt to accomodate the increase in power from the new motor. Once the engine and transmission were returned they were installed and the car came back to life!
Once the most time intensive modifactions were finished, it was time to address the other components such as suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires. For the suspesion, KW stepped into the project and the car was then equipped with their Variant 3 coilover system. For the brakes, Brembo stepped in and had their Gran Turismo 6 Piston Front/4 Piston Rear monoblock race brake kit installed. The wheels chosen for the C55 were Renntech's very own 18x8.5 fronts and 18x10.5 rears. And lastly but surely not least were the tires. The tires are on the car at the moment are the Hoosier R6's. 255/30/18 Fronts and 285/35/18 Rears
This particular race car was built to run in the modified class for the time trial events. There are many more things progressing with the car, and there will be more updates as they come. Dyno sheet, full aerodynamics, and weight saving will be coming soon.
Other updates and videos from HG Motorsports will also be available on their website www.hgmotorsports.com and exclusive magazine coverage from Auto Eclectic on their website www.autoeclectic.com
Cheers!

As it stands, the car is at RennTech in Florida getting the final touches on the tune!
Vehicle Specs:
Modified combustion chamber
Light weight valves
Modified to solid lifters
Weight modified pistons
balanced and blue printed
modified block
12:1 compression ratio
Intake and Exhaust modified and ported
Transmission upgraded with additional clutch packs
Requires 100 octane fuel
Brembo Monoblock 6 Piston Front 4 Piston Rear Big Brake Kit
H&R Springs (KW Triple Adjustable Race Shocks on Way)
Renntech Wheels 18x9.5/18x10.5
Custom Roll Cage by Technosquare
Estimated horsepower 450 or more depending on application and engine management.
The aero that will be added will include a front splitter, to a complete under tray to a diffuser all the way back.
The entire exhaust system will be re-routed once the aero construction takes place.

]Very valid poin[/B]t. Still awesome though. I'm looking forward to updates on EVERYTHING.
For example, the Corvette auto is quicker than the manual since about 2003 or so.

From your description, I guess you are staying naturally aspirated, which I think is a good thing.....adding a supercharger adds weight in all the wrong areas. Maximizing the NA output of the 5.4L V8 with lighter internals, higher compression, ECU tuning (and presumeably header/exhaust work) should yield hopefully > 400-415HP at the crank. That combined with stripping the interior and all unnecessary weight should yield an excellent power-to-weight ratio to maximize acceleration while keeping the more linear throttle response of a NA engine.
I'm also interested to see what was done to the transmission. Hopefully, it's shift speeds have been enhanced, in addition to simply being more robust to handle the increased power.
I'm also curious about whether work was done to increase the negative camber of the front and/or rear wheels and whether you plan or already have installed a mechanical limited slip differential (or whether you think the standard electronic "pseudo limited slip" diff) is good enough for your purposes.
Anyways, I look forward to the updates as they come along.
