Hello:

My name is Michael and I work for Talas Engineering, Inc. in Hayward, CA. Talas is an engineering firm specializing in Accident Reconstruction, Biomechanical Analysis, and Design Analysis.

We currently require a 2005-2006 Mercedes Benz C-Class C55 AMG Sport Sedan for a simple photograph inspection we will be performing within the next 2 weeks. Our analysis in this matter requires our expert engineers to take measurements and photographs of the exterior of the vehicle, in particular the headlight area under the hood. These are standard methods we use on a regular basis in our investigations, and our inspections do not involve driving or altering the vehicle in any way. Vehicles we hire for our inspections are always kept in the exact condition received. Our inspection would take approximately 1 hour to complete and if you are interested and available to participate you would have the option of either dropping the vehicle off and returning, or staying at our offices while we perform the inspection. We pay $100.00 per hour for the first hour of your time and $50 for each additional hour.

We are located on West Winton Avenue in Hayward, CA at the intersection of W. Winton and Cabot Blvd. (not Chabot Blvd.). Ideally, this inspection would be performed during the next 2 weeks.

I'd be careful of most things in Craig's List, hell in two weeks they could have a C55 stripped, chopped & parted out and then tell you that there shop was vandalized and your car was stolen.

Hayward is actually pretty close to me, but as others have expressed, I really don't feel comfortable with them "keeping the car for a few hours" and paying special attention to "the area under the hood".

A way to check its legit would be to ask where the reconstruction/reenactment will take place (what road/intersection) and look up police public records to see if there has been a recent accident there. This could be legit for a court case.

Regardless, you don't just drop off your car nor let them drive it, you stay there the whole time and you move the car for them where they need it.

i don't think it's a scam personally, like i don't think they want to jack someones c55 at gunpoint. i know where this location is, it's in an industrial area where i would expect companies like this to be. the only thing i would be skeptical about is if they made you sign a waiver taking all the responsibilities away from them. but yea if anyone does it, watch them like a hawk when they take "measurements" of your car.

This sounds like an easy way to get a nice car for $100... I want to inspect a 2007 STI! Must be fully loaded and with a fully built motor! Drop off at my house at 9pm with keys on the tire!
