C32 failing emissions test

Hi all,

I'm having some issues renewing my license plates. The process requires a tailpipe reading at idle RPM and another at ca 2000 RPM. My car is failing these tests miserably. The readings show about 4.5% co2 in both tests, but it should be <0.5%.

I've replaced the spark plugs and wires, as well as the upper oxygen sensors. I've taken the car to 2 different mechanics and they are both baffled. The car throws no emission related codes at all. The cats are fine according to the official inspectors.

I tried the search function, but I didn't find anything useful. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Do you have it tuned? Maybe running rich is causing the issue. I would also find a different emissions shop to test again.

It's stock and the emissions have been tested in 3 different places.

Right away would assume it's the catalytic converters. I know the mechanics said it's not but how did they diagnose that? You can't always trust the opinion of a mechanic... How many miles does your C32 have?

I'm not sure how they diagnosed it, but the official state inspectors said that the cats were ok. Car has 80k miles.

You must mean your CO% was at 4.5, not the CO2. As the CO2 should be in the 5-15% range.

Only time I have had my CO% higher than like 0.6% is when I had a bad Cat Converter on my Honda. It also had sky high HC. Not saying that is it but there is a test they can run to see if it is a bad Cat.

Hi Hjartarson,

I have exactly the same problem:
- failing emissions test
- No code on the OBD
Did you find a solution to your problem?

Thanks!
