Post 02 C32 Drive Shaft Problem

Hi, guys. Would need some advice on my problem here. I was doing research on our forum I could not find anything what would help to solve my problem.
I own my benz over a year, did not have any problems with it yet. Besides some regular maintenance of brakes, fluids, S/C bearings, and pulleys.
I had a noise coming under driver seat or in a middle of car. Couple shops could not find what the problem is. Was 4 different stories from each mechanic, one told me that is torque convertor, second one told me that is Idler pulleys needs to be changed, third one stated that my S/C making that noise. I did not want to bring it to stealer because they would charge me $125 EACH HR of looking to find a problem. So I dropped car in Boston to my friend, and he discovered that my driveshaft is bad, especially U-Joint is almost gone.
Right now he told me I can try to get new driveshaft from dealer with discount for $850. Or try to get used one and add new center bearing, bushings, drive shaft flex join because mine are worn with cracks.
Used one from junk yard is 200$ but that car had on clock 101k. Little scary because my has 130k and gives me a problems.

What do you guys think, what should I do? any recommendations how to solve this problem and witch parts and were to buy?
Any ideas?

I will appreciate any input
Thank you

get the new one so you don't run into issues in the future. oftentimes replacement parts from MB are updated to prevent failures in the future, as was the case with several service bulletin parts. also, considering servicing the driveshaft isn't a simple process you will not want to be paying for labor more than once.

to put new drive shaft in it will cost around $200
I just called to dealer and there is only one driveshaft they carry in Germany.
So it's about 2-3weeks to get it shipped.

unfortunately i think most shops will have to special order that part. but it couldn't hurt to go to an independent shop, tell them what the issue is and see if they could get it for less. they will try to beat the dealer's price to get your business.

mechanic told me that flex disc are worn, but when he took out drive shaft U joint was cranking when he tried to spin it.
C_DirtyTwo you think flex disc can make vibration, grinding noise and it is when I accelerate bit more. Usually that noise is coming from normal driving or coming on hill putting more gas.
when i tried just push gas all the way it will pull of fast without any noise.

I think the flex disc could do that for sure, I dont know how bad it'd be but I know it'd cause some vibration. Id replace that first, its cheaper and see how it is.

would it be less work then replacing drive shaft, I just don wont to pay 2 or 3 times for labor. I already paid $150 him to take it down drive shaft and discover what problem is it.

Exclamation HELP NEEDED AGAIN PLEASE

I just got new driveshaft and flexdiscs and center bearing replaced.
but it still leave me with the same weird buzzing/droning/grinding noise and it is coming when I will accelerate little bit. So it will speed up the car with noise for couple seconds and if I will continue floor gas pedal it will go away or if I will take my leg of gas pedal. So times I can feel some jerk plus noise at same time. Transmission flush was done 3k ago and it did not change anything.
what are your guess will be? change for new transmission? or try to take a part my old one?
Right now car has 133k on clock.
Please let me know what are you thinking.

Same here

Hello,

Maybe is good to use this thread instead of make new one.

My car has the same problem like the autor's car.
When i drive it normaly and push the trottle (without kickdown) And the car reaches 2200-2500rpm it seems that something gets in resonance and there is a audible noise with barely felt vibration.
If i push kickdown - no noise
If drive very very gentle - no noise

Yesterday i drive it on the highway and when cruising at 2500rpm i push the trottle to overtake (without kicdown) The noise apears and stay till the car reaches 3000rpm. or i left off the trottle.
The same happens in lower gears and/or when i'm uphill
As soon the car reaches 2500rpm no mater which gear, the noise apears and at 3000rpm disapears

Changed the tranny mount but still the same, the oil is new and up to level,

I'm afraid that this is maybe the torque convertor....

Has a fix been found?

Curious if there was a fix found for this yet.

I too am having this annoying noise when accelerating (not stepping on it). Have had the trans flushed 5x after the new radiator was installed, torque converter has been checked and replaced, but still the noise.

I am to the point now that I feel it is no longer worth it to mess with and to just part it out.

Seeking your opinions on either point.

Have you considered motor mounts?
